All times fished were between 9 pm and 4 am.

Saturday aug 21 night @ Port Hope - Lots of action, fish were aggressive
Sunday Aug 22 night @ Port Hope - Even more action than previous night
Monday Aug 23 night @ port credit - decent action lots of aggressive fish.
Tuesday Aug 24 night at Port credit - slow night think maybe one person had one on.
Wednesday Aug 25 night at port credit - slower night not a single hit, few jumps not aggressive.
Thursday Aug 26 night at port credit - completely dead not even a jump left after two hours.
Friday aug 27 night at port hope - saw a few jumps very slow action saw about two or three fish landed.
Saturday aug 28 night at port hope - a few jumps but dead night didn't see a single fish landed.


Let's hope for some more rain already.

I can add to this cause I just got back from two streams.

Lynde creek was really warm and swampy and couldn't get very far up the river with the yak so it's inconclusive if there's any runs there right now, but a document I read last night said if there are any it would be a low pop.

Pringle creek in whitby harbor was a much clearer stream and I went through it with my kayak very throughly till up above the cnr and there was absolutely NOTHING, I almost couldn't believe it, but it's a lesson learned. No more adventures for me next week it`s straight to the hotspots.lol.

So in total I probably paddled over 10 kms of nothingness . oh well.

went to port hope on monday aug 30th....no bite even after the rain stayed until 8:30.....really want to catch my first salmon...this is my first year fishing got a lot of tip from the members here.
Thanx for all the info....btw when does salmon run start at erindale park ..

Welcome aboard. Sorry to hear about your luck at Port Hope. Just out of curiosity, did you stay until 8:30am or 8:30pm?

As for Erindale Park, from now until right through October, you will see groups of fish moving through there constantly, increasing in numbers over the next few weeks. If you live nearby, the best advice is to keep checking. I'm pretty sure that from here on in, there will be fish in the park at any given time. Also, the ice-breakers pool should be full of fish on the weekend with the rain forecast for Thursday. never any guarantees

I can verify first hand that Port Hope definitely had a massive run last weekend as originally reported here: http://www.ontariofi...ow-t2826s0.html

I drove past Port Hope today, so I stopped in to take a quick look. The fish ladder at Jocelyn st is loaded with thousands of salmon. It was a site to behold. The salmon were literally packed in like sardines, sides touching each other, all squished in together, with tails and dorsal fins sticking out of the shallow water like sharks from the movie Jaws. I've never seen anything quite like it... I have, but not of this magnitude. So I would say that 99% of the run that was reported last week is now at the dam.

I also briefly checked the pier before I left. I saw a couple surface, they looked dark... no fresh fish. I saw 3 or 4 fishing boats about 1/4 mile out, no hook-ups while I was watching. Not too much happening at the mouth as of right now.

I'm guessing there will be at least one more major run at Port Hope.

Ah, OK. You should give it a try at dawn, you may have better luck. If the salmon are staging at the mouth, right at the crack of dawn is usually the best time to get them on the piers in my experience.

crack at DAWN....it takes me an hr to get there, plus its still dark how can i see.....ppl really fish at tat time....wow

Isn't it exciting!? I caught my salmon 4 years ago right before things were pitch black. You could see them jumping 20 meters from the rocks at Port Credit. Sometimes even closer.

Well, here's the Port Hope pier at 5:30AM this morning:



Before you get too excited, besides this one I landed, for the hour and a half I was there I only saw 2 surface... it wouldn't be worth the drive IMO until we get some cooler temps... maybe this weekend?

But I did get to break in the new reel! (thanks MikeyMikey for telling me about the no-tax sale at Lebarons)

Here's another shot of the same fish from an angle where it's more obvious:



Males have an elongated jaw that later develops a hook as they go into spawning mode. Females have a shorter more compact triangular jaw. You can see in the above mug-shot that he's not pretty enough to be a female. In the pic above, if you were to chop off his nose with a vertical cut about half-way between the cleo and the tip of his nose, that's about what a female would look like.
