Hey all ... I need to create a web mapping application for a course I'm taking. I would love to incorporate OFF ... any suggestions?
I would appreciate some suggestions from regular users.

Are you the person I talked to via email? I guess we can move the conversation here and get some input while we're at it.

It would be a good idea if you first gave everyone a summary of what exactly you have in mind.

(moving thread to feedbacl/suggestions forum)

yeah that's me ... I emailed you but haven't got a reply.
I'm open to suggestions .... it all depends on the data source and what I can do with it. I still like the idea of taking the old maps that were numbered and linking them to the reports.
What about having 2 drop down menus that would contain AREA and SPECIES. The user could filter, for instance, Markham and SM Bass ... or Toronto and Pike.

Kabes, I've temporarily put the old maps back up here for you to have a look at http://www.ontariofi...d-project-maps/

Linking the water bodies to reports is a great idea. I could set up a thread in the reports sections for each water body and consolidate all reports for that body of water into that thread. This thread would then be linked to the map. If a user clicked on that link, he would be taken to the corresponding thread in the reports section. Obviously, if the user does not have access to the reports, they would not be able to see the thread. That would be handled automatically by forum permissions.

As for the filters you mentioned, that's a little trickier because that would potentially reveal too much info for those with no reports section access. For example, if user filtered bass-->markham, the ponds with bass would show without the user having to participate in the project. That would essentially defeat the purpose of the pond project

Beta 1.0 is now live.

http://www.ontariofi...m/GTA_Maps_1.0/

Nice work Kabes!

FYI for those browsing the maps...Some ponds no longer exist, and there are some new ponds that are not yet marked on this map. These pond locations are marked exactly as they existed in the original 2006 pond maps.

This is the first beta release, future versions will include:

  • updated pond locations with new ponds added and old ponds removed
  • expanded pond areas to eventually include all of zone 16
  • links to reports for those with GTA Pond reports access

I realize that it's been a few years! LOL But is there any chance that someone is still around to re-post the maps link? It's no longer valid.  It was a great map though and I'm sure lots of us would appreciate its renewal!! Thanks!

I see that this is basically not working, how disappointing.

But on the bright side i decided to step up and provide a real cool collaborative solution for your needs..

I created this detailed map of ponds with confirmed/unconfirmed fishing

hopefully it will grow and over time i will give more users access to add/remove spots from the list.

going to focus on GTA ponds at the moment (Toronto, Vaughn, Mississauga, Brampton, Markham) and some more in the future.

It's information that's on these forums looks to be almost 10 years old. I'll use what i can from it for now but hopefully we will have some other users help me out.

Just thought i would post the reddit to where people can suggest more spots and keep the map growing.

Also included a second map for Outside GTA but still southern Ontario.. It's early, but ill need lots more data.

Great job putting this together.

I have found an app on android devices called 'fishbrain'. I only use the free version but the paid version has more precise information apparently. The app is also on Apple devices.

Good fishing guys.
