There seems to be a lot to safe and efficienct boating. Is there a course that you can take (in a Marina perhaps?) to learn both the theory and practical stuff. Something similar to the new drivers course where you have 25 hours in class and 10 hours behind the wheel? Appreciate any input.

I live in Toronto

I would check with your local Canadian Power and Sailing squadron to see if they offer the type of course that you are looking for.

At the end of the day, you can't eat a fish story...

Thanks Joel, but this is for the licencing. I was looking for something to get practical training as well, "behind the wheel".

Harris Boat Works located on Rice Lake in Gores Landing offers a course like that.

Just take the course on line at www.boaterexam.com . Justake your time and go through the info, then take the test and get your operator card. This is the easiest way.

It's all fun and games, until someone loses a fish!
