The majority of the boats have been lifted out and the weeds are gone leaving almost zero cover, more importantly water temp has dropped significantly this last week or so. Looks like fishing will be restricted to deep areas for the last of the pike, the shallows are empty of pretty much everything. Time to switch from the harbourfront to the streams....!

I agree Mike.
What a difference even a week makes.
- No perch, Bass all gone

Because its so convenient, I know I will hit downtown a couple of more times on really warm days (If there are any).
Will only concentrate on the DEEP INLETS (25-40ft)

* I lost my favourite LURE (Double Loon #5 Spinner) on the only snag i've had in days..
When things improve (work wise) I shall order some online for spring.
They are simply the BEST SPINNER I have ever used.
Second to none.

Would'nt be expecting much.... but you never know.
_____________

Steelies seem to be in , in numbers now in the tribs... so looks like Nov/Dec will cover that.
Time for the the Long Johns, Ear Muffs, ... and gloves.

Beginner question, I thought the Pike go deeper in the summer because they're looking for colder water? But I guess what you guys are saying is that cover is more important.

What is the best fishing for this time of the year?

They do go deep in the summer. My post was in october when we were seeing a lot of medium sized Pike hitting the last of the baitfish in the cooler waters. We had a busy couiple of weeks pulling Perch out of Alexandra marina, then wham, water temps dropped almost overnight....nothing to be seen anywhere.

Thanks Mikeh for the info, but where would the baitfish generally be now?

A lot of that movement is going to be based on water temps and with the wacky winter we have had so far I'm not sure where we are at with water temps compared to a "normal" year....
