Happened to someone fishing with me once. He was removing a treble from a walleye at night. I am careful now whenever dealing with hooks. I had a package of hooks explode in my waders, there still could be hooks in them lol. So now I put my hooks in a container like you would use for roe.

I think people who have been fishing all their lives are comfortable handling fish with their bare hands, even walleye. I like to exercise caution.

Ouch - memories have a few - last trout at a kids derby burried to the bend - right in my knuckle at the joint - 3 hrs later 1 hr trying to bring point through the other side - hospital out. Point on hook bent from knuckle reason it wouldn't come through - couldn't pull it back due to tendon. No 3 point though - ouch but nice fish - best of luck and bet you are more careful with fish with hooks in them I know I am.

Your in there too quick with your hands. Relax. Use pliers, jaw spreaders and hold the fish tight just behind the head. You have learned. Small pike are dangerous to unhook.

It happened to me once about 10 years ago. My buddy caught a very big pike with a Rapala shad rap. We were in a canoe and as usual, I did not have a landing net. Didn't matter much, the pike would have been way to large for the landing net anyway. I tried to grab the pike behind the head but he was too large and I couldn't get a good grip. Somehow, one of the treble hooks imbedded itself on top of my thumb and the other hook was in the fish. The fish gave a sudden lunge and the hook dug into the bone of my thumb while the hook in the pike ripped out.

I pulled the hook out and continued fishing. My thumb quickly swelled up close to 3 times it's original size but the cold water brought the swelling down just as quick.

LOL
"I'm hooked so bad!!!!"

You guys are killing me I laughed so hard...

Been there done that though--it's why I switched to the fly (single hook and hemos bro).

What a hillarious video, reminds me of DORF on GOLF. You make it seem as someone died with the running...LOL
