Just wondering what some of you use for ice fishing line for different species. I just got a new ice fishing rod and have put powerpro braid that I had left over to be used as either backing or as the actual line with a leader. I havent tried for lakers or whitefish yet but I was told that when bringing them up from 100ft down mono isnt the way to go because the stretch makes it difficult to bring them up. I have some pline flurocarbon coated line that I could use as either a leader or as mainline ontop of my braid backing. Or possibly get some mono to use as mainline ontop of the braid backing. Thoughts?

too lazy for the ACC
..maybe coming soon, maybe not.

any coated line should be good so it doesn't hold water. I'm trying nanfil #6 and the Tuf-Line Duracast #10 this year. It IS the same as the ice line...

yes, the white one.
I find it to be garbage in light # test (well, any # test really) on a spinning reel. so many others out there too.

Nado, if its pline fluoroclear u may have some issues. I tried it last winter (8lb) and was not happy. It breaks off at knots, no matter what type of knot u use. When it was cold it was just breaking off, not even in the water. Might be defective spool, but i did not use it anymore. Found better line, daiwa crystal clear, if i m not mistaken. Great for perch and crappies. But for deep water of Simcoe you are better with braid. Use silicone spray to prevent ice-offs. I use powerpro, no problems.

i have crystal on all my walleye jigging rods for open water but didn't like the way it handled under hard water conditions. for me its 8 pound trilene xt (low stretch tow rope) w/ 6lb seaguar leader. walleye/lakers/whitefish. on crappies i just run 3 pound leader off of the 6 lb.

float goes down......rod goes up!!!
