Hey guys, and girl. For some reason unknown to me my service provider decided to change my email address last week without warning to me. All the PMs I have received from all of you here at OFF have been lost. As I received PMs from all of you I set up folders in my email and saved them, and then deleted them from the OFF messenger. Which in hindsight was a bad idea, but I was up around 80% full.
These PMs had a lot of good info and conversation with you all which I referred back to before I headed out for some fishing, maybe there was something new I could try. Now on my new email I have a bunch of empty folders with all your names there. I enjoy talking with you all and meeting new friends and talking fishing here at OFF.
I wonder if any of you are like me and have saved these PMs ( without your cable company losing them for you. ) If some one still has copies of any of these messages I would be grateful if you could forward them to me and I can all fill your folders back up again.
My email has been updated here with OFF and I am now receiving messages that comes through OFF.
Thanks for anything anyone has that they can send through to me.

Alfie.

Crap Alf--sorry to hear.
I have heard of this thing happening before though never to me. I would say you have grounds for some real discounts on your account at the very least.

Who is your provider--give us a heads up...

Yes I have had discussions with them, in the evening. They tell me I need to call a supervisor which will probably happen today. My OFF folders are not the only thing that sits empty, many work related files are now gone forever including possible future jobs with customers who don't even have the new email, nor do I have theirs. That's a lot of work this spring that my guys and I could miss out on.
My provider Cogeco explained that anytime I move ( I moved Nov. 1 ) my email would change and that the guys who installed my cable should have given me my new email when I signed their work completion form. I've been over all the forms twice but there is nothing there. Luckily for them I am a fisherman and I am trying to deal with this calmly and patiently, and their office here in Hamilton has not burned to the ground... yet

Alfie:

I moved this past July and am with Cogeco--I was never warned they would change my e-mail address nor did they. Did you have the service disconnected before you moved?

Perplexing to say the least--good luck with the conversation (they owe you something).

All they did was change a 3 to a 4 in my email address. The service at my old address was disconnected 2 days after I moved, and the service at my new address was connected 2 days before I moved in so that I wouldn't miss any football games :) .
My account number was also changed by one digit.

If you have a sympatico email you can go and retrieve them all from the server.

He said that he is with Cogeco. Perhaps others with Cogeco may be able to help.

Hey guys. NADO, staffman is right I am with cogeco. I'm relatively new with computers and still have a lot to learn, so maybe some one may be able to tell me something that I don't know. I don't care what anyone says, you can teach an old dog new tricks and I'd like to hear any. diggy I'm not sure what you mean by retrieving them from my server. I'm not really sure what you even mean by my server, is that cogeco? And are you saying I should be able to call and they can help me retrieve them, cause I have called them a number of times or are you saying I should be able to find them some how within my own computer? As I said I'd really like to get those conversations back because I have talked with some good people and there are a few tips that were stored in there. Any advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Suggest you ask Cogeco if they can "restore your old email account and address with the previous folders intact". Somewhere your folders still exist.

Thanks everyone. I just got off the line with cogeco and have all my messages. I pretended that I was not a fisherman and that I had no patience and as CC suggested demanded a serious reduction in my bill and even took it so far as to say I would sue over my lost business and business contacts. Very Un-Alfie like I must say.
I guess the girl I was talking to got flustered, she kept telling me that an account that is closed is gone and that my old account was still active so I could access it but there would be nothing in it anymore because it had been closed (??). Finally I said let me talk to someone else. I got a guy who said he could walk me thru the steps to restoring my old account and address. He took me through a number of steps and BOOM, it happened, there was all my PMs. Not on my old account but on my new account, showing as forwarded messages. The emails I sent to myself a week or 2 ago. I guess patience is a virtue, but it has its time and place :)
Thanks again, I suppose we can put this puppy to sleep now.

Alfie.
