Steelhead and Salmon forum rules

  • Specific Spots: Disclosing the presence of fish in a specific pool, upstream from the mouth of any river or tributary is not permitted in the publicly viewable general discussion forum. For example, you can say "I had a great day fishing yesterday on Wilmot Creek", but we do not encourage members to say "The fish are stacked up in the pool at the CNR bridge". The latter statement should be relegated to the Tier 1 and Tier 2 reports sections, away from public view.
  • Lining Debate: "Lining", "snagging" or "flossing" fish is a hot-button topic that often ruins otherwise productive conversations. In order to keep the general discussion forum clean, helpful and productive, it is the policy of OFF that any and all "lining" conversation/debate be conducted in the "Salmonid Insanity" sub-forum.
  • Forum Etiquette: Simple - Be polite, keep it civil. All personal attacks, insults, inflammatory remarks, threats, racist remarks, trolling and otherwise rude and/or immature behaviour are strictly forbidden and will be met with disciplinary action up to and including permanent banning.

I want to add, I know a few guys, who cant afford high end centerpins, that will out fish most of us, if both were given a new body of water to fish. So, if you think your better than the guy with a spinning reel, I feel bad for you. Some day, you might just have to sell that reel and fish with something lower end, how will you feel then? Sorry, I just cant stand that mentality.

Love the name drop. I heard walmart is starting to sell kingpins and islanders. Guess that makes you part of the walmart salmon hunting crew.

Ok Hypocrit.

You are the one that dropped the AVENTA name first.

Tard.

Go protect your $20 rod's cork that is DESIGNED TO BE NEAR WATER.

And also, you should learn to read.

I was making fun of the canadian tire salmon crew that shows up for 2 weeks every year. That comment had NOTHING to do with you.

Those people aren't fishermen even in the slightest sense.

Also, the fact that I mentioned kingpin has nothing to do with me "gloating" about my gear.

I was making a point about leaving unnecessary plastic on your rod. If I had my raven eclipse, or my loomis pin, or my 7000 other spinning reels on my rod at that time I would have said that brand.

WORD! I miss my okuma that thing could take a fk'n beating, my kingpin is like a hot, rich blonde, cool to walk around with but WAAYYY to high maintenance. After owning some cheaper gear and now owning some more expensive gear i can honestly say i wish i had the extra cash for gas and beer. Everybody gets so heated over this topic, but at the end of the day if you can fish, you can fish and ive got my ass handed to me many times by old timers using gear older then me. Skill, Experience and Conservation are what make a good fisherman, not his gear.
Full tank of gas= $80
Rod and Reel= $500
Time on the water= Priceless

Good stuff Trini, glad it worked for you. Hope those 3 losses weren’t on leader failures or I would feel bad :)

Too bad this thread turned to poop.

I went out last Monday, went 2 for 4, both spawned out hens. The water was so clear that every single one I had on went for structure and had me wrapped around stuff, so I don’t feel bad about the landing ratio. Only one was on a leader failure and that’s because I was lazy and didn’t retie :(

I agree with most of the majority on here, you don’t need to spend money to have fun and be successful. I got my aventa used with abec 5's from a member on here and love it sure I would love a 500 dollar king pin for its sheer aesthetic value but my money (used) to go to my car hobby and now goes to my growing family.

I say hi to every fisherman on the river, spinning rod or pin I don’t care, don’t even care if they don’t speak English. Oh and my dad likes to keep his plastic on his rod too and uses a spinning reel because he has arthritis in his hands and can’t deal with a pin. He likely catches more fish than the snobs... anyway I'll stop there because I am getting angry as I think about some of the comments and being angry about something on the internet is useless.:)
