bowfin hunting better during trout openner - thanks guys!

sat apr 28 toronto islands
trout openner....no one in their right mind will be at the islands.....no pressure....
on the ferry over the crew tell me fishing is illegal in toronto...........arhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!1
i sort the poor fellows out and they now can spread the positive spin.....
so i was not quite in the groove when i arrived at the islands.....
12:45pm , angry, way too hung over for my age, tired......
2pm after checking my spots and becoming frustrated with my lack of focus and effort i lied down for a siasta...afternoon nap...
i awake surrounded by geese on olympic island field.....i believe they thought i was dead...close but not exactly....
3:15 i will give fishing another try...i am reset...re focused...i want to catch fish!!!!!
3:30 see a nice 4lb lm bass....yep not in season....oh and there is a pike...yep not in season
no carp to be found????
water is cold in the shallows...too cold?
wait that small rock wasn't there two hours ago....under those leaves maybe a bowfin...the very tip of its nose protruding out...
i send out the worm on a little reccon mission...poor little guy ...he didn't have a chance....
a moment of silence for the worm....
as the worm passed above the small rock it was engulfed into a high velocity high suction bowfin mouth...
the bottom erupted into a tornado as the bowfin felt my sharp...all in the wrist...hook set....
game on hurricane released.....battle royale.....i had my 5lb power pro braid...i had confidence
the ugly stick lite at its breaking point....the jim morris reel done for....the owner hook would not fail this time cause every other component would fail first.....
this bowfin was at the sure point of being lost...when it took a crazed powerfull run towards me.. right into the rock wall of the pond...stunned upon impact...it paused to change direction...i worked the rod until i heard it breaking and powered the bowfin in another direction from where it decided to go...confused it was attacked from below as it was enguled by my net
in the same manner it engulfed the late and departed worm.
this bowfin did not have blaker than black eyes but eyes that were yellow phosphorus....wicked
its tail had a eye coloured in genetic colour markings that were new to me.....
took pics....released....it turned and charged right back to shore....staring at me...got a good look at me...
you can bet i ain't never going swimming at the islands....no way no how...too many bowfins want a bite outta me
