I agree ignorance of the law is not a defense, but...

We only know the fishing regs because we take the initiative to read them in cute little pamphlets at Canadian Tire.  Somebody not interested in angling is not going to take that initiative.

So how to we enlighten joe public?  Should we throw a fundraiser to air PSAs on television and radio?  Run flyers in the newspaper?  Hand out pamphlets on the street corner?

Give it a Rest Please!

If this is true.... "We only know the fishing regs because we take the initiative to read them in cute little pamphlets at Canadian Tire"

I suggest you read the REAL REGS. CTC doesn't have them in "Cute little Pamphlets".

The Ministry Of Natural Resources Home Page is located HERE  You will readily see the 2013 Summary of Regulations shown there. Click on it. You can download it by Zones or the Complete Set Of Regulations by PDF at 25.8 MB.

Cut & Paste Just in case: http://www.mnr.gov.o...Fish/index.html

If all of your Fishing Knowledge so far has come from CTC Pamphlets. You've got a lot to learn!

In addition to what "ChasinTails" has already said. YOU were the one that brought up the Anglers VS Non-Anglers..

"Why do anglers think non-anglers should be aware, or care about fishing regulations."

I see you Edited your First Attempt at this Shot. i.e. "Totally irrelevant to this thread".

Mr. Fishhawk, I figured I would change my dry statement to a question so that you may enlighten me as to why you chose to throw an unsuspecting board member under the bus.

From what I can see, you point is mute and you were scrapping the bottom of the barrel to make a post at the expense of someone else.  A little weak in my opinion.

I have been following your posts.  You seem to know a lot about many things and have photographs and references at your fingertips for any subject.  You must be a very educated and enlightened individual.  I yield to your intellectual prowess.

I am not defending anyone but I think he means how it is the law that you are not allowed to grab a fish out of the water but you are allowed to fish for that fish given the right time of the year and all the other regs yadda yadda. He just means that the OFF member here he posted the pic of was walking and picked up a fish just like this kid grabbed that salmon basically. But I still think if I saw a big fish like that just sun bathing or just minding its own business, I would try to get close and if it allowed me to, I would pick it up. I mean maybe some people think its god's way of saying you are one with nature

From the regs:

14. No person shall sport fish other than by angling or by means of a spear, dip net, baitfish trap, seine net, or bow and arrow.

honestly, rules are rules and we should all follow them. I will say if I saw a bass swim by me in the lake and i had a chance to grab it for a pic I totally would. I think when it comes to spawning and certain situations it is wrong and a fish should be left alone. I have, on the gull river in haliburton, seen 2 musky swimming side by side. Male and female getting their funk on ahha. It would be wrong for me to have gone down into the river and grabbed one.

^^  opps my bad... i did keep it horizontal though and released it.... btw i was there 3 weeks later and its still there and healthy.

Well That's a whole different story! You did the right thing, handled him properly and put him back in. . Appears to be a "Spotted Gar Fish".

VERY Unique Fish. That Spot might have been one of his "Stalking Places".  They Stalk by Floating Around on the Surface like a Log or whatever because they can Breathe Air out of the water.

Okay I better stop here before "Someone" tells me this has nothing to do with the "Topic At Hand"

Tight Lines My Man!!!

Why don't all you guys get together and have a big old fashioned bare knuckle hug and slug?! Or... Better yet, stop being tough guys on the Internet and trying to "out word" each other and just come to the conclusion, that you're different, and you don't and probably won't agree on certain things.

Uh huh...

Funny, I posted this as an subtle reminder that when it comes to stewardship of the environment we are not all on the same page; and furthermore when I commented on WasagaWader's post re: OFF Trend, my intention there was to broaden the scope of his observation to include the increasingly desultory comportment of the general population. As a society we are failing on many fronts, for many reasons (too many to catalogue here)...suffice to say I find it rather disturbing that a news outlet would find it too terribly onerous to do a bit of research before publishing such dreck. But why would they care...journalism is an avenue to the Senate and the unconscionable defrauding of public trust and purse...they certainly have never been arbiters of truth nor the "5th Estate," and well informed, objective, and measured reporting or pedagogy has been thrown under the bus...
