I was out today bottom bouncing and I kept getting snagged every cast almost. The rod kept bending slowly like the weight was catching bottom then id pull and it would break free but eventually get snagged. Was I using too much weight or not enough. It was really fast water and I was using a one ounce pencil sinker. Im thinking lighter but the drift was already going really fast like say maybe a minute from when the weight hit the water to reeling in.

If you're getting hung up then you're using too much weight. It will take some playing around to figure out what to use in which situation, but ideally you want to be able to feel your rig tick bottom every once and a while as it drifts yet not get hung up.

I've always found the pencil sinker get snaged. I recommend split shots, but it definately takes some trial and error to get it right.

TW, I would agree with OPs, too much weight.  Unless you feel a light "tick" every second or two of bottom contact, you are basically plowing your sinker through the rocks and bottom structure.  Guaranteed retie almost every drift.

It's a hard technique, bottom bouncing.

Keep taking away weight until you get that feel described above.

Of course not enough and you won't feel and contact at all -- add a little more.
