All of the ponds around my place are completely frozen and seem to have maybe 1 or 2 inches on already. Things are looking good! (Located in Markham)

A few of the speckle/splake/rainbow puddles in the Bancroft/Dorset/Haliburton  should be ready to rock this weekend if you're comfortable being on 3 inches....

I think you will find some good solid ice on the smaller lakes. We have had cold weather all thia week and night temperatures as low as -20C.

Who needs to go all the way up north? We got ice right here in waterloo, I wouldnt call it safe but its ice lol.

Lake 1:

This little bay in the pond has had ice for a few weeks. You can see the different colored ice in the distance where it broke up and only froze again a few days ago.

Lake 2

The ice here was thicker but there was cracks everywhere and this ice was more like pack ice.

4 inch of ice on a small lake near me, one more cold night and I will try the main lake for ice thinkness, by myself the other day I did not head out past waist deep water, ruffly 60 feet from shore, and there was good ice there an other 40 feet and I would of been in 8 to 10 feet of water good enough for perch and bass

nice unit! humminbirds are the best for ice fishing IMO, my friend has one like that and really enjoys it.

How did you formulate this opinion?  What makes it the best for ice?

always been curious to try ice fishing, don't have the gear or any friends who are down sadly..

maybe this year I can break that cherry

Trolling old threads and saw this.  Look at you now bud!  Lets do it again this winter.  I am all geared up!!
