I'm looking to upgrade to a 4000 which will give me about 90 yards more.
Now what to do keep the 2500 as a spare or try to sell it. It's been used one time...
Any thoughts?
Cheers

What line were you using? Brand and lb?

Honestly you can return it, after working retail I learned that the customer 9.9999999/10 will get there way. You can easily exchange it for a 4000 however I use a 3000 in the shimano series and find I have enough capacity.

If you are using this reel specifically for big fish that makes incredible runs, then you should go to a bigger reel with more capacity. If its an all purpose reel that you use for all types of fishing, then switch to braided line. Braided line is much thinner so you get a bit more line on your spool. For example 20 lb power pro has the same diameter as 6 lb mono.

that is a good reel. what is the lb capacity on it? every reel has the chart what line you can use. if it can hold 15lb - 200 yards. you're good for salmon. it should say on the reel itself what it can hold.

I use a sedona 2500 with 20 pound power pro and have no issues with lining out, ( throwing spoons on a 9 foot Fenwick HMX ). Also get away from the crap berkley vanish line ( personel opion tried it and had a lot of break offs plus a close friend had the same issue, in my opion it is crap ).
But if you are dead set on a larger reel take it back, as stated most shops will do the exchange ( being you pay the difference if the larger capacity reel costs more. )

I would just go back to the store and just exchange for the 4000

Line capacity 10/170, 15/145, and 30/95
if you're only getting 15/145. it all comes down to where you're fishing. open water you will lose to a 20-25lb salmon. on river or creek, you have a better chance.

I'd say return it and bump it up to the 4000. You won't have to worry about it that way, and you can still use it for all/most of your fishing needs.

A 3000 series would work, but with a 4000 series you have less to worry about with a 30lb fresh king on the line in the lake...

I have a Sedona. I interchange spools depending on what I'm after. Most of the time 10 lb has worked good for main line. The other spoil has braid for when I'm chucking. Its worked for me anyway.
Where did you get a spare spool? How much?
