So I am looking for a fairly low cost reel for my 8 foot 5/6 weight glass rod. I have looked at Okuma SLV 5/6, Greys gx300 4/5/6,  Echo ion 6/7.  I will be using 6 weight line on this setup.

So has anyone had any experience with any of these reels?  Or any suggestions on any other reels that  I should look at. Again this is a "cheap" fun little setup. So I don't want to spend more then 75..00- 100.00 on the reel.

thanks.

I wouldnt suggest the greys, it feels very cheap in hand and has plastic internals.

I do like the Echo ion, the only issue with it is water in the drag system below 0 but on a rod like that I doubt you will ever find that to be an issue.

The okuma is surprisingly alright, I have one on a switch rod (spools are cheap) I beat that reel up.

If it was me I would go with the echo, you can also look at finding a used reel whether on spey pages or kijiji there are often gems around that price range.

Ross fly rise 3. $105 and is a work horse. I own one and have caught large salmon, bows, dollies and grayling. IMO you can't go wrong. Caught that bow in my avatar with that reel.

I'm not in anyway experienced enough to comment on fly reels as of yet, but i have an Okuma SLV and it hasn't failed me yet. I'm also not very gentle with it either. My 0.05 cents worth.

Just sitting on the shelf...because i needed a large arbour and being too dumb at the time bought a mid arbour reel. Pm if this might be something of interest.

No worries.... what line weight is that reel rated for? Is it new or used? Can you post up some pics. Or PM me pics and info.

Echo ion is a sweet reel for the price. Plus it looks good too imo. I find with my 2/3 w the drag will get all weird when I dunk it. So avoid dunking if you do get one.

No its used but mint condition. With pouch. its 3.5 inch silver titanium. Its the Orvis Battenkill mid arbour V titanium. I had wff8 on it.

Here is a picture of it. And a link to the exact reel. http://www.youtube.c...h?v=cptK-sS8uHk Its very lightweight
