Got this new reel shipped from the UK a little while ago and haven't had it on the water yet.
Was wondering if anyone had experience with the bar that lies across the reel and how you would use it ? I couldn't seem to find much online.
Cheers.

the bar is a line guard, you just put the line through it and this way it shouldn't wrap around the handles and stuff

You wont be able to side cast with the line guard. Unless you only plan to do short distance carp trotting with it then you will find it hinders performance more then helps.. It can be removed

looks like a nice reel, did it end up costing a lot by the time it got here?

I imagine you could still wallis cast with that. Don't try wallising unless you have good grippy gloves on or bare hands.
You can wallis with a line guard no problem, the thing is that its not always convenient to wallis.

Found this today for 29british lb . Shipping to Canada is 15british lb more. This is a steel for the price of US$70. I got mine less when US and CA$ was at par.
Mine only spin for under two minutes, but still very smooth start up at even small current.
