new by-laws just passed by town council last night, affects salmon fishing only, no more night fishing.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL FOR THE
CORPORATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF PORT HOPE AS FOLLOWS:

a new Section 2 as follows:
“2. HOURS:

remain closed until seven o’clock (a.m.) local time the following
morning unless otherwise posted.
B) Set up of events may convene at 7:00 a.m. but no organized sport
or organized activity shall commence before 8:00 a.m. local time on
Saturdays, Sundays and statutory holidays.
c) No person shall be or remain in a park after the closing hour or
before the opening hour unless authorized by the Department.
d) No person shall remain in any Park or Recreation Area after having
been asked to leave by a Police Officer, Supervisor, By-law
Enforcement Officer, or any other person appointed by the
Corporation for the care and control of the Park or Recreation Area.
e) Fishing is prohibited on the Ganaraska River between the hours of
8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. from August 15 to September 30 from the
Robertson Street Bridge to the Molson Street Bridge.”

2. This By-law shall come into force and effect on the date it is enacted by
Council which shall come into force and effect upon final passing thereof.
READ a FIRST, SECOND and THIRD time and finally passed in Open Council
this 21st day of February, 2017.

These same rules have been in effect for 40 plus years now at various parks such as lowville.
Yup
This will stop the slaughter. Lol

And if they go to an access pass they can shove it.
Why even bother with a fishing license.
Turning into a pay per use scam.

Such a simple solution.
Sanctuary from Sept 1 to Nov 1.
Guess that's too complicated.

they don't want to close the river if they don't have to, this is the first step to closing it though. this will make it easier to enforce though. fishing after 8pm, thats a fine. no need to try and spot illegal fishing techniques in the dark

I get ya FF.
More salmon taken home.
Less fish rotting on the bank.
These fish are just too vulnerable giving their size and low water conditions.
I myself enjoy a couple hookups each fall.
But I'd gladly give it up if these fish can be allowed to spawn and freely finish their life cycle.

I just don't understand. These salmon come up the river to spawn and people are allowed catching them ??? Isn't that what a season is for? Shouldn't salmon season be closed in rivers until the spawn is done? I'm pretty sure here in Canada when bass are spawning they are out of season until they do their thing.

Closing the river for night fishing is a great idea and a fast solution for the municipality. The pay pass to access the river proposed by the town is just another quick solution to reduce the problem. We all need to understand that the town wants and needs the revenue generated by visiting anglers..They can either close it completly from sept 1 to the last saturday in april or put strict regulations in place to keep the ''bad ones'' in check and the river open. Its sucks for us ethical fisherman but i would rather have a place to fish with restrictions than no place at all

The larger issue MUST be addressed my the ministry of natural resources..Reduce the limit to 1 salmon only! Do guys really need 5 30lb fish! How about a salmon licence...quebec does it..nova scotia does it.

If there is no policing then these rules don't really matter now do they ? Barbless treble hooks getting bit by the hungry back ends of the salmon. Glad I stay away from the rivers.
