Looks like an octopus hook to me... Seen lots of guys use those with worms(not snagging) with success. Just putting it out there.

It was an octopus hook,, and yes I agree, just using a lot smaller hooks, size 8-12 are common. That one looked like a 4

Last week I saw a guy fishing a dam with a weighted treble.  He managed to snag one but ended up losing it because his son didn't know how to net a fish.  I wish I had my phone to record it all.

When I hook up is it better for me to try and get the fish out of the current and to the side or let it tire in the current,I I don't know if keeping them in the current tires then to death?

Your tiring me to death. Lol
If you should get a 25 to 30 lb king on.
He's going to go where ever he wants to go.
You can either follow, stand there and get spooled off.
Or.
If your like me and this fish is heading back to the lake, pull back and break it off.
I'm certainly not running.

I'm not into the salmon fishing anymore but I was in the area for work yesterday so I decided to head down to a west trib and see if I could get some aggression strikes. Quantities of fish were not in yet but I did find four salmon sitting in a shallow pool, the idea is to keep casting the lure around them to piss them off and force the aggression strike. It was a pretty interesting experience, the first 5-6 casts were spooking them and they would immediately swim away from the lure wherever it landed. Then after the 5-6 casts they got used to the lure and didn't seem to care about it at all, I did another 5-6 casts and the fish didn't budge. Finally on the last cast I watched a big male follow my spinner before taking a slow motion swipe and the fight was on.

It was a pretty awesome experience, I have caught salmon on lures before but I have never tried it in a shallow water sight fishing scenario. You cant really do it when the zoo is in and 10 guys are float fishing every pool but if you can find an isolated area with just a few salmon in the pool I highly recommend it.

I find aggression strikes later in the run. After they've spawn and on their death march...I guess that would piss off anyone....I posted this video I found in youtube before...

Same setup?
What lb test are others using?
Clear line high vis.
Still fishing skein and roe or casting lures?
Reel ratio . 3-1 4-1 6-1 ?
Speed critical.
You have to know what questions to ask the successful angler beside you.
You get the technique right the fish will follow.
Called fishing not catching for a reason.
Not as simple as many believe .
