Last May I was walking not 5 minutes from my front door, I live just west of downtown Toronto, I saw what appeared to be 20 huge river monsters just hanging out on top of the water. I hadn't touched a fishing pole in over a decade, but these monsters were the spark that reignited a childhood passion.

Turns out those monsters were common carp, and so began my obsession with catching them. Shortly after this turned into an obsession of catching any fish available and exploring my new city and surrounding area fishing spots.

In the last year I've targeted and landed carp, pike, Chinook, LM bass, gold fish, bluegills, brown bulls, channel cats.

I'm in bass mode right now, but my goals for 2017 are to catch my first steelhead and to learn more about local pike.

Quick question:  Does anyone have experience hiring a guide? I was thinking about it not so much for landing a lot of fish, but more to get one on one guidance/coaching from someone with way more knowledge than myself. How much knowledge could you absorb from someone in a day, or am I better off doing my own research and just putting in my time on the water?

I understand this question will be different for everyone, just wanted to know other's experiences.

Thanks
