put some tension on a rod and use your other hand to grab a line and pull like you're shooting a bow. release fast. barely fails.

if you never fished before, go on the bike ride on the weekend to explore different spots, you will also learn a lot from different fishermen just watching them fish.
west tribs can be harsh environment for new anglers

still sounds like a lot of fun but the lake looks like you were getting some swells....how deep were you hitting them?
no waves at all, juts some boat traffic wakes.
dude you were supposed to tell me if u went! Nice job!
might hit again this sunday, 6am on the water, will let you know for sure
Nice natural fish dude
fought like a champ compared to stocked ones. was hoping for 20lbs
Nice catch! how deep?
105ft

another gorgeous day on the water, probably last shot at lakers until ice. it has been harder and harder to trick these buggers.... hopefully it will pick up again before closing.
current in the bay made the fishing tricky as it moved the lure more than 10 ft to the side.
went 3/6 with few dozen chasers in between.
one to end the day.

you think or it slips?
set the drag tight and pull the line, you will know 100% if it slips.
even if its slips it wont slip so much to create nests
it has to do with your adjustments and casting technique

start from basics. what size is your hook and your line? any leaders?
Posted by efka on 14 August 2013 - 12:52 PM in Steelhead and Salmon Fishing
run the mono/fluoro leader at least 2 ft. not only it gives you little stretch, it's easier to notice damage from teeth before loosing a spoon.

you can go in the park and drag the line through the grass, but if the spool is too full you will get same results.
after a number of casts the line will be twisted again....
move to braid..

was driving there in the evening few years back and saw one guy fishing, out of curiosity stopped to see what he was catching.... to my surprise he was getting crappie right under the light near the dam. he said there were tons of bass in the pond north of mill pond.

try to describe your problem more clearly.
you said that the reel locks yet gives you bird nests because the reel still spins, how is that possible.?
Posted by efka on 31 July 2013 - 03:11 PM in Fishing Gear Talk and DIY Corner
if you get bird nests that means the spool is not jammed. the problem is in line, it gets stuck somewhere somehow.
Posted by efka on 31 July 2013 - 12:51 PM in Fishing Gear Talk and DIY Corner
seems like its either the knot on line or the line wraps somewhere on one of the guides.
throw out your lure and when it locks inspect the line
