#338979 Spring Trout Fishing

Posted by Graham Bristow on 08 March 2017 - 08:30 AM in Fly Fishing

If your are in the area of Drift Outfitters in Toronto or Grand River Outfitters in Fergus you should stop in and talk to the guys about flies that are working during that time period. Otherwise there are a number of nymphs that could work. One of my favorites is a pheasant tail nymph. Good luck.

#338978 Maps of Forks of the Credit area showing public lands

Posted by Graham Bristow on 08 March 2017 - 08:25 AM in Fly Fishing

A good way of finding out more information on the upper credit river is to join Greg Clark Chapter of Trout Unlimited. There's a bunch of guys that fish that area that may be willing to share the type of info you are looking for. They also do a great job of helping to maintain and improve that river and could use more support and more help.

#331247 Leader, Shot Line, and Float Rigging Question

Posted by Graham Bristow on 10 March 2016 - 02:12 PM in Float Fishing

hmmm, not sure I believe it's the float spinning during the cast that causes line twist since my float doesn't seam to spin and other styles of casting don't cause line twist but I still use the same float. I think the swivel and the slip floats just allow the line to un-twist when being reeled in each time so no twist is created by the repeated side cast style. I think this is why once I start seeing line twist I add a micro swivel a few feet above the float and the line twist almost instantly vanishes, the swivel allows the line to untwist on the cast or on the retrieve..  either way, swivels work..

#331239 Troutslayor...Q&A

I have a question, How the hell do you get on the water 250 days a year and still have a job and a life?

#331238 Any one a Member of Trout Unlimited Canada?

Posted by Graham Bristow on 10 March 2016 - 11:33 AM in General Fishing Discussion

I don't think you can go wrong with any organization that helps the river. Some may be pro steelhead, some are pro browns, some are pro brook trout and some don't care they just want clean water and a healthy ecosystem. Go with an organization that fits your best interest and join and have fun. it's a great way to meet new anglers that share your passion and to help your favorite rivers, TU has different chapters that may have a different objective and you should contact the closest chapter and ask them directly about their views and projects..

#331233 GO FISHING, GO TO JAIL – There’s something’s fishy about Bill C-246

Posted by Graham Bristow on 10 March 2016 - 11:19 AM in General Fishing Discussion

Trying to pass a Bill like this when the rest of the MP's in the house eat slaughtered cows, pigs and chickens all the time,, theres no difference, anglers and hunters kill for food so and so do farmers, killing is killing..this is a joke that will never pass and I hope she gets an earful and gets voted out on the next election.

#331230 Beads

Posted by Graham Bristow on 10 March 2016 - 11:04 AM in Steelhead and Salmon Fishing

Every time I go out I try just a bead as so many talk of that's all they use. Every colour I can buy, 10 to 6mm, varying space from hook to bead, different size hooks, adjusting weight and placement of weight...I just can't catch with just a bead. Roe, flies, worms with a bead, yes but never just a bead. Is it a confidence thing, doing something wrong thing??

If one's not working why not try 2 beads, or bead and a nymph or worm or roe, Keep them 12 to 18 inches apart with 2 hooks, one at each bait.. Just make sure they're getting down to the fish. good luck.

#331229 Beads

I personaly, don't use bead a lot beacause in 80% of bites I can not set the hook, yes I had many bites on bead even sometimes

it was the only bait fish bit, but I managed to set the hook only 2-3 times, may be I need to use bigger size hook (I use # 8 or 10)??

If you're getting bites but not hooking up you may be setting to late. With roe it's softer and they hold on longer but a bead is hard and un-natural and they spit it out quickly.. Set fast and hard and see if that helps.. Also I use size #8 and #10 raven sedge or specialist hooks with no issues and my bead is 1.5 to 2" from the hook.. hope that helps...

#331228 Half-size Fly Lines and Streamer Fly Lines

Posted by Graham Bristow on 10 March 2016 - 10:52 AM in Fly Fishing

Something else to consider is trying a line like the Airflow Ridge lines or the sharkskin. In my opinion they shoot through the guides better and are less sticky on the hands and guys that try my streamer rod after using theirs really notice the difference and so do I. I use an older style Airflow Ridge lines for all my streamers. Also learning to do a good double haul helps to.

#331208 Strike Indicators.

Many interesting ideas on indicators and many different styles to boot. If I'm using indicators these are my preferred indicators, the 2 tone are best.   http://froghairfishi...t&product_id=93
