#319345 Float Reel

Posted by CJR on 13 November 2014 - 12:02 AM in Fishing Gear Talk and DIY Corner

The reel doesn't catch fish.  An R-Type will catch more fish in the hands of a good angler than an Islander will in the hands of a hack.  If you know how to present a bait and read water the fish don't care what is on the end of your rod.  Sorry to disappoint all the equipment snobs out there, but that is the bottom line.

Agreed.  I would spend more money on a rod than a reel personally.  But it's basically a spool with line.  I mean if you have the money to afford higher end equipment it's fine, but I know seasoned steelheaders who fish cheaper centrepins who catch tons of fish.

A couple of questions: In the first photograph, what model/size of hook is that. And also, how did you hook on your roe bag. By the way it slid up the line, I would assume you just but the hook through the mesh once. I'm kinda new to drift fishing...

Kamasan sedge hook, size 10.  I hooked it on through the mesh, I guess it just slid around while I was fighting the fish, it happens now and then.

Do you change per pool?  I use a bead and bag.  Then I'll try a bead and/or pinkie.  Lastly, I will try a fly.

Usually I'll do the same, but have the bead a few inches up from the egg saaac.  If the float starts going down and bead drops, Ill take off the bag right away and drift the bead by itself.

When fishing is slow, how often do you guys switch beads?

Usually as soon as the roe bite dies down.  I'll do beads first, then pinkys/flies.

#318928 Studs or no studs?

Posted by CJR on 03 November 2014 - 11:15 AM in Fishing Gear Talk and DIY Corner

Studs for sure.  I've went for two swims in the past two years and it wasn't fun.  I use the simms ones, but sheet metal screws will do just fine.

#318837 How to Push Someone out of a Hole

Tried to add a little comedy to something I found ridiculous at the time, If anyone was out today they'd note that there was no one on the river.

Yep, was pretty dead, but the first light bite was decent.

When you mention Black Creek, the only one that comes to my mind is a full concrete lined "trib" that hooks up to the Humber River by 401 LOL

That's the one.  Right off Jane St.  It's been loaded with fresh chrome.

Thanks to all who came out today - we slayed them!  Banner year of slaying bags with nearly 20 bags of stuff pulled out  The camping chair hatch was on and we just kept slaying 'em!  Found lots of innovative, cutting edge, state of the art iFish 2015 prototype lures used for the salmon such as ecstacy rave party glow sticks, interior R12 styro insulation floats and nuts used to hold the Titanic together subbed for weights.  Again, big shout out to the people who showed up and hope you all got into some fish afterwards - cheers folks :)
