#341725 Another new person :-)

Posted by McLean2016 on 07 September 2017 - 08:30 PM in Welcome!

Welcome to the forum, I won't be much help with fishing from a boat down your way on the grand and Erie. I grew up on the bay of quinte though, so can help you there. Ice fishing is coming up fast, let me know if you have any interest in getting into some whitefish and lakers on simcoe this year and I'll point you in the right direction

Got out Monday on simcoe in 79ft of water, went 8/11 on whities and landed two lakers. Fishing was great in the morning, slowed down in the afternoon. Bear point also out his huts out, we didn't go there but that's an option for guys too

#338344 First major trips of the year

Posted by McLean2016 on 13 January 2017 - 01:14 PM in Ice Fishing

I've made it out to a few small lakes locally to scratch this itch, but this week I've managed to get on two of my favourite lakes.
The first was simcoe on Monday, and unfortunately it wasn't out of my usual spot a small the ice wasn't ready. Headed out of gilford that day, an no one caught anything decent all dinks.

Wednesday was a different story all together, took a friend up north for his first ever whities and managed to get him into 3. We both lost a ton of fish, missed even more bites. I got my first whitefish of the year, and also a little laker. Can't wait to get back up there, so nice to get some fish on the dinner table!
Hope everyone else is having a good start to their season,
I uploaded the new pics to my hardwater album

I'm in Hamilton, lots of lakes to choose from all depends on how far you want to drive.
I've got all the gear, and a ton of walk on spots that don't really require a machine. Doesn't hurt to have one though, I'll upload a bunch of pictures from last years hardwater season into my album today.

#338190 Scratched the itch the last two days

Posted by McLean2016 on 04 January 2017 - 09:17 AM in Ice Fishing

Ugh me either, got to test out my new tipup/tipdown design and it worked like a charm.
Now all it needs is some whitie slime, and a few screaming runs of a laker to break it in right. Lol
Trying to figure out where to go this coming Monday, don't want to stay at the small local lake if I don't have too.

#338148 Scratched the itch the last two days

Posted by McLean2016 on 01 January 2017 - 04:36 PM in Ice Fishing

Got out on a small lake just north of the hammer, was lucky to find safe ice after doing the leg work.
Caught 3 pike, 4 perch, and 1 catfish the first day.
Second day managed 5 pike, 7perch, and two cats.
No size to the pike, all between 1-3 pounds.
Still so awesome to get the dust off the gear, and off the couch!
Happy new year everyone, hope your on ice soon
* if pictures were easier to upload on this forum, i would flood this post

Well then let's be honest, the more you complain. Or try to "educate" other members your just bringing more attention to that spot.
You would have been better off to leave it alone, and not whine about it*

No kidding eh, like I could understand if it was a small lake.
Truthfully if it was that much of an issue why hasn't an admin chimed in, lol.

Nothing better than a guy who thinks they "own" a public fishing spot/drift, you have way too much time on your hands to worry about other people fishing Niagara. It's a huge body of water, and everyday is different there. Regardless what's posted, shouldn't stop you from catching fish...

Slickrick i lmao at that comment too!
😂

#337881 Let's go fishing this weekend!

Posted by McLean2016 on 09 December 2016 - 04:07 AM in General Fishing Discussion

Just saw this post, and although I don't do much trout fishing if your into ice fishing I have quite a few spots within a 1-3hour drive from Hamilton. Anything from perch, lakers, white fish, walleye, ling, and pike. Have tons of pictures to put money where my mouth is, so to speak. Lol
Have all the gear, and more than willing to cover gas/bait for the day. If you wanna do some ice fishing this year shoot me a pm and we can exchange info.
Chris

#337869 "New" to ice fishing

Posted by McLean2016 on 08 December 2016 - 01:23 AM in Ice Fishing

Good post for sure, I would be careful how many minnows you keep/post online.
Max amount for anyone at any given time is 120, I could care less. I have seen some posts about MNR watching online forums though, so thought I would mention it to be safe.
I'm in Hamilton, and do quite a bit of ice fishing, have all the gear, and also some really productive spots. All walk on spots, and lakes from simcoe and 3hours north, and in between the two.
I mainly fish whities/lakers, but love a good perch feed too.
If you want some suggestions on lakes give me a pm, I have no issue sharing.

#337059 Homemade gear

Posted by McLean2016 on 11 October 2016 - 10:49 PM in Fishing Gear Talk and DIY Corner

Well lately I've been getting back into wood working, and have starting building my custom tipups/tipdowns. Also started a pretty detailed replica whitefish ice fishing stick for my lucky tipdown. Lol man what a pain in the a$$ to cut each scale out by hand, but finally got the scales finished. Working on the head, then fins, and will upload pictures when it's done. Or I may just send them all to an admin and then can post it for me, lol
My question is, what's everyone building?
Anyone into lead pouring, I have started to design my own molds now. Will be pouring by the months end of all goes as planned, hope everyone had a great thanksgiving!

Your telling me, I use YouTube for all my tv viewing in my room. Countless hours watching videos on anything, and everything. Currently on a lead ingot/custom lead Molds phase, but also been watching a ton of vids on hand carving wood.
I'm about half way through a whitefish carving, a ton of work but looks good so far
