#345115 Can anyone recommend a 10lb and 30lb fishing line?

Posted by TI Redux on 10 April 2020 - 08:20 PM in Fishing Gear Talk and DIY Corner

Not many tarpon , black fin or wahoo on southern ontario ditches.
When spooling on new line, you must remember It has to be under tension. Simply apply pressure between your thumb and middle finger is fine.
Once the spools full.
Wrap with an elastic and drop spool in sufficient size container of water for the night.
Line forms to the spool.

#344918 Atlantic Salmon program

Posted by TI Redux on 12 September 2019 - 04:43 PM in General Fishing Discussion

Again it comes down to money.
The well off, are so desperate to find a renewable Atlantic fishery here in Ontario.
Not for you or me.
Just so they can buy up miles of river access and charge through the nose to fish these rivers
100's of dollars per hour plus the added cost of guide non optional requirements.
Rich get richer.
And just another business.
Just look at the wasted years and millions of fish and dollars spent already to reach this goal.
Last gasp effort is the Ganny.
No more steelhead fishing.
I hope to God this is another Atlantic failure.
Don't want to lose the best steelhead fishing in Ontario.

And yes pwadm I'm expanding on the topic .
AGAIN
This was a salmon and steelhead forum when I joined.
Who really gives a shite about 60lb test bass requirements, laketrout or pike or musky or friggen carp fishing!

They all have their own forums.

#344916 Staging Kings!

We're all guilty of trying to gain the advantage.
Obviously I'm old school.
And have seen enough catch fish quick promises to last a couple lifetimes.
We're dealing with professional marketing and lobbyists ( Paid to sell useless products )
We all have to think for ourselves.
Use all the added swivels, shot lines ,fluoro carbon leader, wingless swivels crap. And 20.00 gammy hooks B.S and I guarantee you .
Other than out all the extra cash payouts your no further ahead.

Ha ha ha
So much for the mythical invisible fluoro carbon line.
Don't waste your money to the marketing machine.

#344887 Can anyone recommend a 10lb and 30lb fishing line?

Posted by TI Redux on 21 August 2019 - 11:26 PM in Fishing Gear Talk and DIY Corner

That was a reply to Nados theory on light line causing exhaustion and taking longer to land fish.
And lake trout is the one fish you always want to take your time bringing up anyways.

#344885 Can anyone recommend a 10lb and 30lb fishing line?

You don't need to fish with cable you will catch way more with 8lb Berkeley clear mono and your set. Don't go green or florescent just plain old clear.

You need a decent rod and reel and set the drag right but putting on Braid that's four times stronger than the fish your going for is just rookie and you know the rest of us are laughing and thinking do you have that shiny Shimano jacket also?

I do change my line a lot but I just think it goes with getting ready to head out on a trip and mono does not last long so change it often.

I've fought salmon musky you name it on 8lb mono. It's called drag boys.

Last trip one person used 12lb the other used 8lb and the score was 1:12 so go figure, same lures same everything except the line size.

X2

#344882 I feel the need

Posted by TI Redux on 21 August 2019 - 02:55 PM in General Fishing Discussion

I'm sure it is Chrome.
I've had the pleasure of hooking up on lake O a couple miles out.
The fight and power of a nook on a 100+ feet deep waterbody , totally non comparable to 3-4 ft deep river encounter.

Your missing the total basics .
Line strength has nothing to do with how fast you land a fish.
The whole movement towards 11 to 15 ft rods is the ability to use 4 - 6 lb test.
Lighter line equals more hook ups.
Look at the rod as a giant shock absorber.
Matching rod specs with quality reel and line is the goal. And an art in itself.
Have seen to many people over the years suffer exploding rod syndrome. Lol

Finesse means delicate.
Ultra light rod 6 -4 lb test.
And lots of fun.
30lb braid means.
Telephone pole and winch.
Fighting weeds and pads and cutting veg to get at your fish. Lol

Fishing for what ? Using what length and power of rod ?
IMO opinion this braid , fluoro leader bs all the extra swivels and crap just a money grab.
On the river or off the pier 6 -10 lb clear Stren tied directly has never failed.
Don't listen to any of those product pushing yankee fishing show commercials.
Lol
