I have never used Braid before and put some 40lb Berkely X5 on my baitcaster to try it out.  On some casts the line seems to get caught up in the spool and stops the cast.

Is this a normal problem with Braid.

Not a big issue, usually the problem with over winding is caused by the line tension. This can normally be worked out by using the brake setup. Causes for this is normally associated by over powering a cast, by casting into the wind with a lure or plug or bait that slow your bait down before hitting the water . Set up your rig by adjusting the bait fall to a stop before hitting the ground. Depending on your reel the final brakes for the spool are located in different areas on the reel.
