pretty much the same way as bass you know small crank baits spinners xraps. Yes this is the right time to catch them they are structure oriented fish so the like cover and are about 1-3 feet off the bottom try tube jigs under a slip float i recently caught one using a silver crankbait for bass and once you find one keep on working the are they travel in schools so you should catch a lot of them. Good luck and Tight lines

SalmonFisher, Lake Scugog has the most crappie.  They love to bite in the evening, but you can also find them during the day.  The thing with crappie is they school and they swim around, so you gotta find them. Once you find them, there should be more than 1, maybe up to 10 per school.  or more.   The Slab Crappies are usually solo, and alone, these are the monster crappies, they don't really school in scugog.  I've boated past a nesting area with a single slab monster crappie.  However, at Lake Simcoe, the schools are much larger.  Again, you have to find them, there aren't always at the same location.  Some days there are there, other days, not a single crappie.  And Crappie is the best tasting fish to eat, and by harvesting them you contribute to the protection of Walleye Fry at Lake Scugog.  You want to be using jigs with plastics or worms.

Happy Crappie Fishing!

Sidenote:  If you are fishing up North somewhere where there's lots of Walleyes, big walleyes.  Crappies sometimes also school with Walleyes.  But once the big ones are harvested, the Crappie will eat all the walleye fry.

To be frank with you. I' am happier fisherman pulling up 30 medium sized crappies, than a 5lb LMB.  :)

Hi Salmonfisher;

According to Legend,  Crappie were caught in Port Credit Pier a long time ago on jigs, that is rubber twisters.
