I started fishing the river last year in Oct, Picking up a relatives retired Centerpin and sheffield rod.

I had been out 15 times only leaving with the frustration on how to cast, and the question of whether my setup of my float and shot line was correct or not..

Today everything seemed  to come together, taking away an integral part of correctly fishing a river- SLOWING DOWN, slowing down allowed me to properly present my bait and track my float much more efficiently.. Ultimately being awared with 4 bites and 2 landed fish.

Dont hate on the way the 2nd fish was landed, It was my first.. I tried not to land it in the mud but had no choice, I steered him in that way, took a pic and released without touching anything other than its tail..

I was a die hard spinning reel floater , being the last one in my group of friends to switch to a float reel . Trials of failed casts are part of the learning experience of mastering the art of float reel casting . Congrats on your successful catch and release of your first Steelies , it gets easier , with every new outing comes new challenges and more confidence .

Good stuff brother   Cherries popped on some fine looking fish, especially that first one with the red fins.
