This is somewhat related to openfire's thread about fishing pressure... sort of, anyway. Something like 99.9% of the pond action we talked about last summer was bass... but I know I saw carp and bullhead last year. I never fished for them, but I did catch at least two small carp and some tiny, tiny bullhead.

I've been avoiding the ponds because I didn't want to risk bass out of season... but if I was fishing for carp or bullhead using corn or doughballs, the bass wouldn't even bother, would they? Has anybody targeted these in any of the ponds we talked about last year?

as long as the bait isn't moving, i dont believe predatory fish such as bass would take it.

i say try it out and let us know how you do!

You should be fine, I heard you could also use just plain bread aswell for carp. And yup thats very true frozenfire, I remember last year the LMs would always go after moving targets, while the pannies will go after just about anything standing still

I have not targetted carp in any of the ponds, but it might be a worthwhile endeavour while bass are still OOS. I can tell you that I have never, ever seen or heard of anyone catching a bass on corn or doughballs.

I just want to add that if you want to try for carp in the ponds, you should try chumming. I would buy a bag of frozen corn of the $1.49 variety.

Take a few handfuls of the frozen corn and throw it into the general area that you intend to fish. Then using an egg sinker, swivel and about an 18 inch light fluorocarbon leader, thread a razor sharp hook with corn and cast it into the area you just chummed and wait.

Just to better your chances, next time you are in a bait shop, pick up a HAIR RIG. Lets the corn go into the mouth first, thenthe hook, that way they dont feel the hook as soon as they taste corn! Works Well!

speaking of carp & bullhead, anyone heading out next week to the islands for some carp/bullhead action ? I might just head to center island if my closer spot isnt producing by then. You can see my report from last weekend if you want to know what Im talking about.
