I'm going to St. John's Newfoundland on Monday for a week. I have a buddy who's GF is originally from there and is going back to attend her friend's wedding. Me and my GF decided to join them for a nice little get-away since neither of us have seen that part of the country.

Anyway, I was hoping to do some fishing while I'm there. The only problem is that from what I've read, you are required to be accompanied by a resident Newfoundler in order to fish!?! :) -OR- you must hire a guide! HUH??? (reminds me of Preston)

Do any members here have any experience/advice/info/tips on fishing in Newfoundland?

I think I'll have internet access while I'm there but I'm not 100% sure, so any info would be preferred by this weekend if possible.

Ther rivers are full of trout..get a tour guide , not too expensive, you can play C&R with the trout for hours!!
Stay away from the screech!

Last year I was talking with a Canjet Airline employee here at Toronto and he told me that during mid June you can actually see a huge iceberg floating from St. Johns.

Well, I'm off to Newfoundland in a few hours.

Thanks Disspatcher for the advice. Yup, you're right. I looked into it and it seems that the best atlantic salmon fishing in North America is in Newfoundland and Labrador. Unfortunately, I can't get the wife to agree to venturing out to a river. :) The good news is that she's agreed to go fishing on a charter boat for a few hours. I will figure that out when I get there. (I'll ask the locals)

Mikeymikey, I heard the same thing about the icebergs. If they're still there, I'll post a pic when I get back.

About the screech, I have no choice! lol The couple that we're going with have insisted that I get "screeched in". It involves taking a shot of screech and kissing a cod apparently. :)

See you guys next week!
