What are the best lures to use in mega weedy areas, i.e even when top water(tiny torpedo, popers, gitter bugs) get weeds on them in every cast. I have some snagproof worms but with pike present they will tear them apart if they decide to go for it.

Thx

You could try a weedless frog with a pitching rod with 30lb test. Some of those creature baits will also work by dragging them on top and if you find a hole, just let them drop down. The key here is as soon as you have a bite to hold your rod up high and try to pull the fish on top of the vegetation and slide them into clear water. The frog that I like is the Spro 65 frog.

Yep. You defintially need some weedless floating lures. I personally use the rubber frogs that expand to match the hook, then use a quick jerk, pause, jerk, pause method or retrieving.

Also, you might want to use a steel leader and high test line. Maybe braided if need be. Your going to be putting a lot of stress on your rig pulling it through the weeds and pads.

Thanks guys, I picked up some frogs and weedless spoons(not sure if these will work well either). I still plan on using just the fireline 10# line tho, will upgrade to 20# if I find the 10# is cutting it close not sure what size of pike lurks underneath. Hopefully I will find out soon:)

Take a steel leader with ya. In case the pike nails the line when he takes it. Hate to see him get the lure with his teeth..

Another thing to try is to use a jig with a crawfish trailer and just flip and pitch into any of the holes in the vegitation.

I like the frog...and poppers, I have one weedless frog i have had for about 5 years now, and always produces bass for me. definatly need a leader, also try throwing along the line of the weed beds, that will get the ones looking into open water. Good for bass.

Found a good lure for weeds, its the moss boss got it from BPS every single other lure I used got weeds(yes even the frog and daredevil weedless spoons) except for this thing, was fishing in 2-3ft of weeds after 4 hours my brother gave up and put on a small trout lure to catch some crappie/perch then Bam out of nowhere this pike took it all.

So for anyone fishing heavy weeds even in June in july/august it will be 10 times worse. Moss boss is an awesome lure can be fished top water or a few inches under depending on retrive style/speed.

So you are talking about a top water lure.

SkumFrog is good enough.

Spyro? Frog? It all works.

You can always hook those plastic frogs weedless and run it across the weeds.

If you have a access to GTA report section... look for one of my pond reports where I used skum frog topwater to catch few basssessss

They can be used as top water just keep your rod tip high and fast retrive.
