Favourite is "Williams Wabler" (Yes that's the proper spelling. They also have a "Wobbler") I'll put them both below so you can see the Difference.

In Silver, sometimes a Start/Stop Retreive, sometimes a medium/fast Rip retreive.

I also Epoxy a Glass Rattle to the Backside of ALL my Spoons

Of course the Good Old "Eppinger Daredevle" (Yes it is ...LOL...)

I recently Downsized the Trebles, and added, or Upsized the O-Rings if none where there, or too small on the Daredevle's due to an article I read "Somewhere".

Better "Action" on the Lure apparently.

A few Spinner Baits and a "Heddon Moss Boss" Topwater if I want to Fish in the "Slop".

The Heddon Moss Boss sure is an interesting lure. Never seen on like it before. Thanks.

+1, I've had a lot of luck with the Wabler

I think its the 5"1/4 that I typically use - three trebels. As for color I like the perch pattern, but I switch it up until i find one that works.

Suspending plugs will get you the pike when nothing else will. Ice out pike tend to become lazy. I was yesterday. 2 hours tossing every spinner & spoon I have but nothing. Pike were too busy basking in shallow water letting you know they're there but...

I was getting frustrated.Check my tackle box. There's a size 11 HJ still in the package. I didn't even remember buying them because I've never been a fan of the Rapala pricing. Cast and slow retrieve. I saw a follow but no strike. I tried even a slower retrieve. Follow but the strike missed. Cast again. same speed the follow then I stopped. It took about 5 seconds for the pike to decide if he will strike or not (that long) It did. Had my first pike of 2013. Give them time. they're sluggish I guess.

thanks for the tips! I'll have to pick up some suspending baits... not much open water here yet but I'm hoping to get a window of opportunity for at least a few days before zone 18 shuts down for a few months.

 

p.s. I hate paying for rapalas too lol, at that price i get too conservative about where I'll cast haha.

Will start making my own lures. I see DiOY kits at Lebarons the other day. Will pick up some blades and make my own. I will post a pic of my homemade lures and then let you guys know about the results.

Thats sweet man I'm sure you'll pick it up without a hitch. Look forward to seeing how they turn out! If you want any tips on anything related to making in-line spinners don't hesitate to send me a pm, i'm no expert but i've picked up a bit of know-how and love to talk DIY.

Pike on the lake I fish up north seem to like the blue fox vibrax spinners size 3 or 4. I also catch them on 1/4 ounce minnow bodied (googlie eyed and all) willow leaf spinners with a bit of feathering on the treble. Not even sure what brand BPS sells them there's a whole rack. Usually on a slow to medium steady retrieve in the summer sun in about 6-8FOW. Water clarity is debatable most of the time.

Ice out pike for me is all about pauses with suspending stickbaits.  Jerk-Jerk-pause, when I say pause I mean upwards of up to 30 seconds.

+1. learned it in a weird way. was casting a HJ11 for an hour and a half steady slow retrieve with no strikes. water had low visibility so you can't really see what's  under 2 feet. no sun. i was in the middle of a slow retrieve when frustration set in. I stopped and grabbed my coffee. after 5 seconds of pause...the hit.
