with center pins the difference in quality is "noticeable" but far from detrimental like it would be with a bait caster/spinning reel. crappy casting and spinning reels can ruin your day of fishing with tangles, drag failures, handles falling off etc. that said a quality spinning reel is only 60 bucks and bait caster around 120.
