Well, I was fishin off a dock in late august falling into September. It was moving in around noonish, when I laid my rod down for a minute to check on my son. So when I picked my rod up I began to reel it normal speed but let my lure drop to hit the bottom a few times. As I started reel I had the Hardest hit, an the fight is on. After fighting this 12 lb salmon in the crystal clear water, with the sun reflecting off it's sides in 20 feet of water, I netted it. So i decided to try it one more time. As soon as I picked that lure off the bottom and retrieved about twenty feet of line, FISH ON......... So if you are ever fishing off a dock, try this an pls let me know if you ever have any luck.
It would make us both happy

You caught a salmon in the middle of the day off a dock? Was it at the mouth? That would be extreamly rare. The only time you usually see them in shallow water in the day is when they are running in river.

Owen sound at the mouth when there having their derby. The water was around 30' the old man beside me wouldn't believe if he didn't see for him self. Two salmon in fifteen minutes. Back to back. But I lost the second one when netting it. The net hit the nose n broke the hook.

The earliest King I ever caught off Bronte was on an August 2nd a few years ago, 1pm bright clear sunny afternoon with temps in the 80's. 42", right around 30lbs bright gunmetal silver.
I stopped making hard & fast predictions about Kings after that.

The lift-drop isn't anything new, I still keep some glo painted Buzz Bombs as a secret confidence bait. Len Thompson's have a better flutter than Cleo's (which seem to drop like a rock), instead of a strong jerk a smooth pull seems to trigger more bites.
Now something new I played around with alot the last few seasons are soft plastic swimbaits. YUM Money Minnow with a small glow stick Crazy Glued in the body, crawl that puppy along the bottom on those quiet nights when you can't buy a fish. Saved a few outings when I was the only one on the pier getting bit.
