@efka I always thought it was the opposite. The lighter the line, the more you can put on the spool.



It sucks. They use hooks with a bell sinker at the end and cast it across the river hoping an unlucky salmon will get caught on their line. It's only legal with Sockeye in certain places because they are the only true salmon that won't bite.

I think he means that you can't get spooled because you can just pull the fish in without your line breaking.

Well. It's best to strike a balance. Too heavy and it could ruin your presentation or casting distance. Too light and it will take longer to land the fish or you might just get a break off.

Most people start off fishing salmon that way, but it doesn't take long to see how it really works and there are more reliable ways to catch Kings that will land more fish in the long run.

could you elaborate on more reliable ways? I'm at a loss... I can't get river salmon to attack/bite anything. I've been fishing for 3 days and have tried roe, marshmallows, worms, spoons of all colors, natural colored plugs, and silver and orange mepps .

Clean and silver nice, mine was really dark.
My first hit on a j13 and it was gone. I just checked my leader for any fray on the line a cast before.
Reloaded and got hammered sevearl times om a silver and black j13

Yes sunday morning, I forgot my net and finally remembered after getting off the highway. Go figure no net a get a fish, nice fella beside mr thee netted it and he kept it. I was hoping ti be there @ 5 am. Got there @ 7 am salmon rolling all over the area. Huge rollers and tough winds made it difficult fishing

you can use J13 during dark aswell.

i once seen two guys just using j13 at night catching multiple fish between them during dark hours.

Live update from the rocks!

So what do you think of this situation?
When i arrived at the rocks,, I was the only one fishing toward the lake. Not too long after while it was still dark... I hooked in to a fish and enjoyed the fight because at the time there was only like 3 others but far away from.
So now I walked away maybe a rock or two to net the fish (VERY FRESH SILVER! again) and while I was removing the hook and getting ready to release the fish I noticed a guy walking up to EXACT spot I was casting from! So after a quick release of the fish ... I asked the guy "are you going to fish from that spot"? guy tells me "I don't see any reservation?!!". Said to myself in my mind. "nether orifice", So I told the guy, Yeah~ I want to fish from that spot!. He than told me, you still want to catch more fish? (what a fu*er)... than he moved two rocks away from me and starts casting. Also he is one of those who doesn't bother to have a fish net, so I was hoping he would hook into a fish because I so wanted to just sit and just watch him struggle. (yes revenge is bad but sometimes, i want to be evil).

So people, if you ain't gonna bother bringing a net... atleast be very respectful to others and maybe they'll help you land your fish? eh?

Yep I will be there rain or shine. Remember last year while I was helping a person land a salmon the older fellow moved my tackle bag out of my spot.

After landing mine on Sunday a fellow stepped into my position after went to change my j-13, there were only 5 guys on the pier and he wanted my spot WTF, needless to say he caught jack crap.

Should be good this weekend with the rain in the forecast.
