Well I guess your right :( I still wanna get a raven rod tho! How does the im8 compare?

Lots of power. It gets heavy after a while though, and I think 13' is the shortest you can get.

Aln, a suggestion before you buy your reel; when you go to the store to purchase your reel and there are a few of the same model at the store, spin them first and see which one has the better spin because there is a difference especially with the Okuma.

Hey Aln spend the extra and get the RV9 it's worth it. I picked up one to pair off with my KP and man can I ever feel the difference between it and the Aventa and RawII setup it's like night and day in the feel and sensitivity. Like CJR said if you wanna play your gotta pay. Look at it as spending once only and not having to worry about replacing every couple yrs plus on the good side it's such a good rod you really don't have to upgrade it's already one of the better rods to begin with. :)

I have Shimano Clarus 13' 4 pcs. I always brake it in 2 no need for 4. but you always have that option. As far handling, it is very light and it is awesome rod.
It is excellent rod for the money, I was landing 20-30lb salmon this season no problem. Releasing them too :)

This is not me!

i am not convinced that the CP 200-350 are that different---its mostly perception in my opinion--everyone loves the expensive stuff-i would drive a ferrari with white smoke billowing out the back and still tell my buddies its a great car--idunno man i picked up a matrix titaniun and it felt like a cheap toy i have the raw 2 and had a buddy who is one of the KP and imperail nuts that spent like 80000 on a reel he closed his eyes and could not tell the difference..at all same spin. i dunno --just frustrated its a wheel with bearings lol.....the fly guys for the most part say the reel is something to put your line on--the rod is the biggie......ALN coming saturday???

Good float rods are lighter and have more backbone. I have a sheffield rod worth 180, im not sure how heavy it is but my arm is always tired after a long day on the water. I can deal with it and I like the backbone it has for a 4-8 rod so im not replacing it any time soon. I used to say the same thing about custom rods worth 600+ but the longer you are involved in the sport the more it all starts to make sense. Titanium guides etc etc.

ALN I think were all getting a little impatient here, did you get the setup today or what? lol

Sweet pin bro...... it's a great entry pin into the foray of float fishing and you can always upgrade the bearings later on when they go bad.. Now which float rod did you get or plan on getting to pair off with that badboy?.

Hope your going to the cleanup with Dozer on Sunday look forward to seeing what you paired it up with. ill bring the Aventa and RV9 for you to test out so you can experiment between a low end and upper end rod.

Very nice buddy, you'll love it.

Hmm. I'd go with an 8-10lb line. If you wanna get a lot for cheap try raven, but I'm not a big fan of it. Currently using suffix siege and it's decent, but beds a lot after every fish. Suffix Promix or Pline Cxx are good if you can find them. Remember though, you need to put backing on the reel before spooling it with mono.

Excellent Aln, congrats. You need to get some backing like Dacron 150-250yards and then 8lb mono - like raven or Ande. 6lb floro for a leader, some round split shots, not the ones with the fins on the back, some good hooks like the gamakatsu octopus hooks is a size 4, 6, or 8 and your in business.

Good Luck!
