Little bit of CP porn. I'm starting to save money for this

Kingpin makes nice products but I find them to be slightly overpriced for mass produced reels, but they are very nice. If I was going to spend that much money I would go with a Angling Specialties, RSG Custom or Paine Falls reel. Check them out before you make a purchase.

I actually like the look of the R2 more, I may be on the lookout for a used one once spring rolls around and the custom rod is paid for.

Ironically enough.... I believe these other customs have raised the price of this next gen CP being offered from KP..Kingpin makes nice products but I find them to be slightly overpriced for mass produced reels, but they are very nice. If I was going to spend that much money I would go with a Angling Specialties, RSG Custom or Paine Falls reel. Check them out before you make a purchase.
I have used or have experience with AS, frogwater & riverkeeper, Paine Falls... None of these made me want to switch from my current R2.. Which I think is fantastic CP.
It's also nice to know that this price point will keep many from owning one.. which is perfectly fine with me,

Agreed, I'm not running to buy it right away but it really cought my eye this one is (Joda talk). Jedi needs lightsaber so he can be thru master.
I know that they are overpriced and there might be better CP but for some reason this one looks just right for me a lot of openings so line can dry quckly etc. and it looks like it is light reel and that will help a lot for long day fishing. I don't know we will see )

Ya this one seems a little overpriced to me as well. I realize the design will be a bit more run time but the price increase is probably more related to their forecasted demand than anything else. Personally I think they are spinning their wheels too fast with all of the great hand made CP's on the market these days, time will tell I guess when we find out how many of these reels actually start popping up on the water.
I actually like the look of the R2 more, I may be on the lookout for a used one once spring rolls around and the custom rod is paid for.
I agree, there are likely the same components to this reel as the R2; backplate, pin, bearings, cap screw, clicker mechanism... Seems many companies put a different spool design on the same chassis.
If there is a company that can make a solid reel, that looks slick, for $150, 3yr warranty... They could clean up. (I believe that the okuma raw was attempting this strategy)
I think a lot of these companies are pushing the upper limits of the consumer market because they can. Granted some of these "actually" handmade reels come by their pricing honestly.
I was told that islander is bumping the price of their entire line of reels very soon, likely because they can!

It might look better in a different color scheme but I really dont think the Orange goes well in that design. Black where the gunmetal is and silver or gold where the orange is would look much better.

Ya, you may be right but I don't mind the orange. I like the gunmetal better then black cause black is too generic.

It is supposed to be completely different and will not share any of the components (other than the cap & bearings) of the R2... the clicker mechanism has been completely revamped.I agree, there are likely the same components to this reel as the R2; backplate, pin, bearings, cap screw, clicker mechanism... Seems many companies put a different spool design on the same chassis.
