I have been field testing some of the Amundson offerings...in particular the Savvy and the Laredo...I would be happy to lend these to anyone to use for the day if wemshould meet up on the water somewhere...I think you will be pleasantly surprised by these IM8 rods...
Standing invite circumstance permitting

I'd be interested to try out the rods sometime Chase. I did notice on the site that the Savvy Mooching is IM6. Is there an IM8 Savvy as well or is just the Laredo offered in IM8 ?

You're in the Hammer??
Be happy to put both the Savvy and the Laredo into your hands should opportunity bring us to the water...
And yes Savvy IM6 and Laredo IM8 (plus adjustable reel seat location)

I can't help you on the rod, as most of my rods are 20 years old plus, other than a couple of clarus rods we keep in the trunk for fishing emergencies. I have only used mine once, and it seems decent, my son loves his 11'3" clarus though. As for reels, if I had to pick out of that lot, I would definately go with the raven reel, they are quite good for the money, they just look plain, however function is far more important than form. Second to that would be the rapala, but the newest one, called a tail out drifter I think?? Saw it at Lebaron for $150. Great reel at that price point! It is silver instead of black, and a bit smoother than the black one. Good luck!

I was just at the show at the amunson booth. handled the rod and the reels. they very solid, and as a combo in your total budget. raven im8 13 foot is my go too rod i love it, hook sets are so crisp, not sure if it is in your budget starts at 200. the amunson reel i handled was very solidly built, it can rival mid $400 reel. look into it.

Also raven rods don't go well with raven/light reels. they are rather tip heavy.

Sorry, the matrix. I didn't realize they had an sst, looks sort of like an okuma. I have fished a matrix it is decent reel for the dough.

IMHO, instead of asking, go to the show and handle a few rods and reels and then you can decide. lot of great deals at the show.
