sounds like a great idea, you successfully got me excited about crappy fishing lol. Im gonna have to head out to the local pond with my 4wt and try it out. Indicator with a little crappie jig should work well.

I constantly catch crappie and bluegills on flies. I fish ponds and use small woolys or scuds under a strike indicator. It helps if there is a bit of chop on the water to put action into the fly.

Add me to that too, I've caught more branches than fish and lost more flies to trees than fish..... I'm still learning

I fish flies under a weighted slip float (mandatory for casting) with my light action spinning set up. It's pretty productive if the fish are being picky about tubes. Brown, olive and white with hints of red all work well. Even small streamers will take fish.

Here's a pic from my less than spectacular outing last Thursday. High winds and dense cover around the pond made for very difficult fly fishing. A spinning setup would have been much more effective in this case but the fly was still fun for the novelty side of things.

Nice fish! What fly is that? Looks like it could be used on a spinning set up...

Its actually a jig, I hammered crappie through the ice on that jig this winter so I figured it would work. I dont have many flies after losing my box full of flies so I just grabbed whatever I could find in the garage.

 

For 40 bucks its a pretty nice looking fly rod, wooden reel seat and all.
