2 weeks ago I was having a blast with resident trouts and all ended when a 12inch SM Bass managed to spot the #1 aglia firetiger I was drifting. A week later I caught 2 SMBass (different spot) chumming corn on carps that are holding a pool. 2 Carp, 2 smallies (on corn). Yesterday. First cast on the tiniest PMartin spinner that I'd say the deadliest spinner for trout in my books and caught another SMBass. Moved on another spot another Smallie. 2Smallie, 4 rainbows and 1 foul-hooked carp(on spinner). On a water I haven't caught a single smallie a year ago.

I've been pike fishing recently and hooking small mouth like crazy. Pulled (and, of course, released (even when IN season)) a five pounder where I normally pull in pound and a halters.

Looks like a good season coming up.

These warm summers or short winters apparently have had a positive affect on bass populations, that's why the season opened earlier this year.

I wonder how it affects pike/steelhead/salmon though, can't be good for them, although maybe it doesn't have such a drastic effect because in summer those 3 all have access to deep cool water?

I don't know where APZ245 is located but if you're in zone16 then you are right Buck. It's 4th Sat of june and it always has been. But like I said. tons of smallies are being caught accidentally on creeks where resident trouts are suppose to be hot right now. I had a pretty good day yesterday. caught about 7 rainbows. I love the fight on this smaller rainbows non-stop shakes. Was using Light action on 4lb test. No smallies this time. But a guy on a different pool fly-fishing caught 1 smallie and 10+ rainbows.

I should have been clearer, in certain zones they have extended the bass season this year, not zone 16

here's whats new for 2013, extended bass seasons in zone 17, 18, 20
