There's always chances of badly hooking a fish and causing it to die. But why purposely increase these chances by using inadequate equipment.

Also if I do end up killing one by accident, depending on what species it is, I keep it for food or give it to a friend.

Uh huh, so i do it till i have 2 dead. Problems?

I actually don't have any problems with you taking your limit. It's your right when purchasing a license.

Many northern trib meat hunters do this every season.. Infact I have seen them rotate spots with friends and other locals. (Catch 2 fish and leave)

However, I do have a problem with you continuing to fish after your limit with this particular method. As mentioned, doing so will result in a high mortality rate...

glad i will probably never see you on the rivers...otherwise i would probably cut your line....its not only very disrepectful to the fish....its disrepectful to every angler fishing around you

Who said im fishing in rivers? If i do it il be doing it somewhere there isnt people. I know better than to hog the water for a 15min+ fight. If im alone, thats a different story.

As far as being disrespectful to the fish, well thats what fishing is. You fish for the fun right? (dont tell me you keep every fish you get). You pierce its mouth/throat just to see if you can entice it to bite your lure. Thats not disrespectful? Sport fishing is just that. For sport. For fun. For the challenge.

So........you use circle hooks on your lures? No right? You use trebles? maybe singles? Thats also increasing the chance of foul hooking a fish isnt it?

but you don't know better than use appropriate gear for the species of fish you're catching

Actually you're wrong. For salmon and trout I rarely use lures, but all my casting spoons and spinners have been changed to single hooks.

Majority of the time I float for them using small single hooks.... lol, I never said foul hooking.., by badly hooking a fish I meant deep hooking it causing it to bleed out and die..when I foul hook a fish I break it off right away.

Who wants to play a fish that's hooked in the tail or the body?

Im not going to fish that way after my limit. I usually use 15lb braid/8lb mono. I dont think im even going to do it after succeeding it once. I understand very well that REPEATING it will cause high mortality rate.

Look, dont get me wrong. I dont want to kill a fish for no reason if I can prevent it. I catch-and-release on a regular basis. But once in a while, I want a challenge. This time, I just happened to read about people hooking up salmon on 4lb, when I thought I was pretty good for using 8lb and wanted to see if I can do it or not.

I dont even know why you people started to argue with me when I first said

"Some people just like a challenge. Its not always about keeping the fish alive. Fish can always be buried as fert"

You people simply assumed that Im going to do that for every salmon, which Im definitely not planning on doing, and started to accuse me of stuff I havnt even done yet (heck, it was someone else who said it MANY posts above me, which im sure you people read, but havnt replied to. hmm?). Seriously, I didnt even say a pip about doing it myself, and I get a reply right away, and directed at me, making it sound as if Im out of my mind or something. Some people people like to challenge themselves, Some people dont fish for catch-and-release. If you kill a fish you cant eat, you can always bury it. Thats all that statement was meant to say. But now that I see that someone else has suggested, I thought why not try it for once? Once I land a salmon that way, Im probably going to quit it. Even if I fail, Il stop it after a few times. I dont enjoy holding up a huge fiberglass rod for 15min+ anymore than you do. But you know what? If I can get that one time thrill/achievement of landing a 20lb salmon on a 4lb line, I think thats worth it, even if I kill the fish. If you dont agree with me on that, well theres nothing I can do, but please stop with the assumptions. If you want me to clearify something, Il clarify it, but I dont appreciate people wildly accusing me of something I merely suggested.

Sorry if I sounded like what you assumed I was talking about. Again, nothing I could do to change how you think.
