For night fishing I use glow sticks with a stick float.  the stick floats are $1.79, the glow sticks are $1.99 for a bunch of them, i think 5, i forget, and you get 3 additional packs free. These items can be obtained at BASS CITY, on hwy7, main street unionville area.  BASS CITY is the only fishing store in Markham.

Actually there is Le Baron too on woodbine near First Markham Place and the Woodside plaza, they have very nice inventory as well.  A variety of brands, and the prices are pretty good too.

Winners had some decent Rapala rods and plastic combo sets for around $30-40 each, red tagged to $27.

Always check Canadian Tire as well. ($9.99-14.99 for light beginner Zebco or Rapala rods, when on sale).  Sometimes Walmart if you are out of town. (Get Shimano, or ugly stick, or Quantum)  Markville Walmart sells rubbish fishing gear.
