Thank you for all the responses!
Can anyone tell me if I am wasting my time in the bay area?
Am I wasting my time fishing in the afternoon with the sun being so hot?
Also, some spots are really shallow, like 2-3 feet deep, will bass hang out there?

If fishing creeks/rivers I find that trestles/supporting columns of bridges usually have fish around them. In my experience panfish are usually in the shallower water closer to shore and bass tend to be a little deeper out, especially the big ones.

I don't think she should start with salmon lol. Look for structure. Bass will hang out there. Look for weeds, logs, fallen trees, and undercut banks.
Agree with this... also how far are you willing to travel to fish? And what times do you usally go out? Maybe with this feed back everyone can help a little more.

and another thing man. you dont need a boat to get nice smallies, I love river fishing. All you have to do is walk the water and find the holes. im talking trout areas that have 6 feet holes where the big boys live. just some food for thought.

try the outflow at the nuclear plant, its not illegal i went and asked myself, you can ecpect to catch anything there, bass, trout, walleye, pike, etc, etc and it should be no more than 15mins for you
