Hello guys, I've been a fan of fishing but never really had the will and the time to do it until getting here in Canada. Caught my first fish which is a Pike from one of the lakes up North.

I'm so happy that my 3 young boys and my wife are also starting to love it. Don't wanna dose off the enthusiasm of the kids by not getting them bring home any fish again with our next trip. Is there any place near Sauga where a sure catch for the kids can happen??? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi Dax, good job on the Pike.  I'm guessing everybody is fishing from shore?  If so, the kids can use small hooks with a 1" piece of worm, split shot sinker and a small bobber.  They will be catching sunfish all day.  Docks are probably the best spot.

For the big kids, Cleo spoons and Mepps spinners in a couple assorted sizes in both silver and gold finishes should work for any game fish lurking around the shore area.  All of which can be bought from Canadian Tire and they also come in four packs for about $20.

How old are your kids?  I ask because my experience with my own is the younger they are the happier they are with any catch.  As they age a bit they are not as happy with catching bait.

Here is a list from the MNR site.  Again targeting sunfish, Rock Bass were always fun for my girls when younger.

  1. Palgrave Mill Pond:  Hwy. 50 S. of Hwy. 9
  2. Albion Hills Conservation Area:  Hwy. 50 N. of Bolton
  3. Bolton Resources Management Tract:  Public Land upstream of Bolton
  4. Glen Haffy Conservation Area:  Airport Rd. S. of Hwy. 9
  5. Heart Lake Conservation Area:  Heart Lake Rd. N. of Hwy. 7
  6. Professors Lake:  North Pk. Dr. E. of Bramalea Rd.
  7. Clairville Conservation Area:  Hwy 50 at Steeles Ave.
  8. Chinguacousy Park: Central Park Drive N. of Hwy. 7
  9. Loafers Lake: Loafers lake Rd. N of Sandalwood Parkway E.
  10. Lake Aquataine: Winston Churchill Blvd. at Aquataine Ave.
  11. Ken Whillians:  Hwy. 10 S. of the Grange Sideroad
  12. Forks of the Credit Provincial Park:  Regional Rd. 124 at Mclaren Rd.

There is also a pond abou 5 minutes from the Bass Pro Shop in a very nice park.  Pack a picnic, tour BPS and get some fishing in all in a 30 min drive.

I got the pike with a white spinner. We were actually in a pontoon when I got the pike.  Will help the kids put  a worm & a spilt shot sinker this next trip. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for this great info! We actually tried in Glen Haffy yesterday afternoon for about 1.5 hrs but the place was soooo crowded. Didn't realize there were only two small ponds to cast there and people were literally casting in front of each other. Got nothing and the kids got disappointed again :) . We tried to go to Fairy Lake afterwards but no one was fishing there at all and the water was kind of dirty so we did not bother to wet a line. Will probably try Mountsberg next time. My boys are 18, 9 and 6. Got no problem with the 18 coz he is really enjoying every throw now with or without catch. I'm hoping the little ones will have good luck next time.
