the people i talked to didnt know much about the river, just knew some of the best fishing and fish could be had there. i have no issuse with that. it took me 3 years of trying that river before i even got my first bite. i dont like the crowds b/c of the mess they bring and leave behind. theres more then enough fish to be had for all, but not forever.. some people end up finding "different" ways to get these fish. eg snagging, flossing, netting even. thats where the real problem comes in.

i geuss we really got to watch our P's and Q's when sharing info.. i still think its a great idea to conttiue with the trip up north for the OFF members.

i hear there is a very special event planed for that weekend... i will not say it on here, but would like one of the adminds to pm me, i will tell them what i know before i share...

cheers.

and keep it clean..

I agree with most all of what Float On said. I think some of us severely overestimate the influence of this or any other forum. I live on a "GB trib". When the fishing is good there are lots of folks on the river, when it's not there isn't. I don't see anyone posting river conds------I think k the grapevine (texting being the modern day  means) seems to work well, combined with previous experience of some veteran fishermen. Either way, fishermen seem to know when conds are good w/o the benefit of this forum, and likely forums as well. Nevertheless, I agree with the board policy of not naming streams.

If that's the case then why do you agree with not naming rivers? You're saying everybody knows and what is said on this forum doesn't make a difference :?:

He is saying that every little bit helps. And that this is a "little bit".

Anyway, hope to meet lots of you guys up there!

so you understand that he's saying every little bit helps but you don't understand that I said the same thing?

I felt that when you said "adding to it", you were implying that there is some kind of problem.

When in actual fact I don't think it's a problem at all... It's fishing at peak times of a run.

I do agree with you about the naming part tho. Sorry about that.

But, this beast will continue to grow exponentially every year... People love to fish, and share, and explore...

Did rice lake get overfished a few years ago when DIGGYJ or whatever his name is posted pics of 3-4lb bass every Monday from opener to Labor Day? Is it his fault that people fish there often?

I have called people out on naming creeks quite often in this forum. I think it's a great idea to keep things discreet. But "west" or "east" "gb" isn't doing jack. It giving a "lurker" a choice of a couple rivers that he can choose from. Might as well not say anything if we're so worried.

Sorry for demolishing this thread.

It just makes me laugh when people assume this thread killed "their" river (arguably one of the best and most well known steelhead creeks in our province). This river is good for 1 reason as well, volunteer work done by steelheaders for the enjoyment of the general public. Not just "off" members.

Trini its been too long since we fished, I hope you can make it out.

Come on now guys, I went to the event last year and had an awesome time and won a bunch of sweet prizes. I didn't want to be the facilitator for this but it was far too much fun last year to let it be cancelled. Its something we do once a year, this river is the most publicized in magazines, tv shows etc etc. We can't have this event without telling people where it is.....Check out the National Pro Staff site, rivers are named there on every single report! I hardly think our little event is responsible for the crowds there.

LogJam are you sure you aren't mixing up your acronyms? OFF/OFN?? Last year OFN published a multiple page article on the geen and the returning numbers of fish. I've read about you being upset about the event multiple times in the shout box, its pretty much trolling at this point.

One thing I can say for sure is that once the computer screen is removed and you can hear the sound of the river in the background everybody gets along. Its gonna be a great event with lots of prizes thanks to Fishheads www.fishheadscanada.net check them out if you haven't already. I went to all of the local tackle shops the other day looking for 6mm beads and none of them had any at all, both said their distributor doesn't carry them. Mike had every color I was looking for in the 6mm and more, can't beat the steelhead specific tackle selection!

We may be missing a few details here...but no bother, seems things are progressing wonderfully.

b/c of this forum, the "geen" is now a gong show, worst then bronte on a full run Saturday, was up there yesterday talked to a few people, all of them heard it was a good spot from this site.

(Naming Rivers: The naming of any specific river or tributary is not permitted in the publicly viewable general discussion forum. Instead, please refer to the river by the general area it is located, ie “East Trib”, “West Trib”, “GB (Georgian Bay) Trib”,)

this rule was completely forgotten or ignored when this "OFF trip" was started, or planed....

i find this very upsetting, and i have lost much respect for what the OFF forums were here for in the first place....

I got news for you man, the geen has been a gong show for over 20 years! Further, we used to get all the info on rivers the old fashioned way, with no Internet and just a phone and the buddy system to help us! And there where crowds then! If your really concerned, I suggest you go have a chat with the Chronz, because he is crowing from the treetops about all of the hard work of the ontario steelheaders, and the huge success of their stocking programs, and the fantastic returns. Not that I begrudge them that at all! But I guarantee that is doing more harm than this website! The geen is very well known these days, even south of the border, and it isn't because of OFF.

I totally agree all the crowds were on the rivers (north and south ) long before this forum !! The only difference is when some one is deciding on a place to go this weekend by reading about a certain river on a forum it's like subliminal messaging !! They see geen so the want to fish the geen they see another river name and they want to try that one out .. I personally avoid the geen like the plague because of the crowds !! I may come up for one day of the outing just to put some faces to names

If you think there's too much politics there, you don't wanna hear the politics associated with your trib...

You know better than to let the bickering get the better of you...leave that kinda attitude for the little kids...

I got something for you to use up there...
