You have $500 to your favourite fishing tackle store. What do you spend it on?

think some people lost the direction of the thread, its not about what you COULD save for, but what you buy with 500.
for instance i could say im going to save up another 525 for a custom done http://builder.abelr....com/super/7/8N with a custom g-loomis nrx spey rod, thats a $2000 combo, but thats not what this thread is about

You tell 'em, JMatt!
On the other hand, we can see that no matter what an angler has, free money or not, they will always want the next most expensive thing lol.

I actually debated whether i'd buy a rod & reel, or just buy every possible plastic bait i could just so i can try them.

@shawarma. i wouldn't suggest that at all. maybe read some reviews on what really works...cough...pink worm...cough...or chartreuse...buying ever plastic bait for you to try...you have to be in the river a lot to do that. I have like 5 packs of baits from last year that are still un opened. because once you've tried something that works...you won't be able to go to the next one.

warm waders....that's all i'd buy for a $500 budget and spools and spools of line, bobbers, split shots and hooks. Last winter I'm almost all alone everytime I hit the water - even on weekends...and the fish are biting anything you throw at them. I even caught a trout on a...

that reel is way to small for that rod when getting a reel set up with spey line you have to go with a bigger reel like on my 8 wt spey i use a 10 wt reel for balance and just to store enough backing on the reel

I agree with that. Staying dry and warm in the winter and not getting sunburnt in the summer are key.
