who is in charge of the ladder at the dam, call them or contact them. if there is no ladder, no one is counting it. mnr would probably know best.

Whatever, I hope you are having fun with that RAINBOW. Let me introduce myself, I am a fisherman who has started this hobby this year, and my only regret about it is that I never got fishing sooner. I have had the rare and privelged experience of seeing an 5 foot endangered lake sturgeon from shore up close for a good ten minutes. I unfortunatly have no canoe so all my fishing is from shore. I have caught largemouth bass, crappies, catfish, rainbow trout and the annoying bluegill that I catch every time. I like to do a lot of research on fishing because I want to try to get this down a science. And thats a quick sum up. I have fished wilkes dam a bit now in the fall and the place looked like it had nothing really but a lot of suckers and catfish, of course though everyone was using worms. But I talked to man who has been fishing there for 35 years and he has everything from mooneye to muskie there. Sounds like it happened 29 years ago though. I have read the grand rivers website and theres walleye, bass, pike, carp ,and migrotary rainbows. Thanks for the advice. Wonder if the dam is frozen or not.
if you are catching sucker and catfish (both being bottom feeders) you are fishing too deep or at the bottom. LM bass and pike eat in shallower water, they hunt toward the surface, so changing where you dangle your bait might improve you catching different species. if you want to catch bass and pike, you may want to be looking into lures and crankbaits. also make sure the season for the fish you are targeting is open on the body of water. most places bass is closed.
