Looking like it the deepwater will be somewhat ready for Lake Trout / Whitefish opener.

Anyone else getting up at 5am new years day to scratch the itch?

I'd love to go, but not sure if the ice is safe yet. Any reports on the ice condition?

Hard to say what its going to be like Buck. I would say some spots should be fine and nota zoo all depends.

I'm going to test out a couple spots Tuesday night.... I'll post my results.

Test drilled 2 spots yesterday afternoon and 1 on my way home from perching this morning. Ice is looking pretty good for tomorrow morning. One operator was out setting up over deep-water in Kemp already yesterday. Thinking I'll be out on the sled tomorrow.

Quick pic of my second accidental simcoe whitey this year.

i'll likely be somewhere on the north shore walking slowly as I go deeper.

Buck, there is always nasty cracks that form around the BBP area nothing to get to worked up about really, just exercise caution when caution when crossing on foot.  Its actually quite nice when you can see the crack like right now with no fresh snow. The danger comes when there is fresh fallen snow and you can't tell where the semi-open part is.

I'll be starting on the south shore of kempenfelt but may blast across to the north shore if the action isn't good.

Personally I would not cross the crack yet. The ice is on the move and you run the risk of it opening up during the day and you not being able to get back to shore
