Hey OFF,

Thinking about heading back down to the Niagara Whirlpool sometime this week. Just wondering if I could expect some Salmon there this time of year. I have seen youtube videos where the anglers seem to catch very large salmon at this spot during the winter, and thought I'd try my luck. What do you guys think? Should I expect Salmon there this time of year? If not, then what other types of fish could I try and catch?

Thanks,

Grappler

you can catch ANYTHING, put a worm on and keep it off the bottom 1-2 feet, you can catch anything that exists in lake o. also be really careful going down the steps. and pray there is not too much ice.

yeah watch out for the ice. I went a few years ago in February and it was impossible to get a cast past the GIANT ice blocks floating and slush. With the recent on and off temps I'd say its the same there now.

salmon are long gone.  mostly steelheads, with some browns and lakers right now.  no ice in the river, but the water temps are around 33 degrees F which makes for some sluggish fish.  you'll have to put some work in to locate them, good luck and happy new year.
