Just to thrown in my $.02 I really like using a vest for most situations. Lots of storage for what ever you need, can add that little bit extra insulation if needed and if too hot you just leave it on the bank (plus my net clips onto the back to the vest). Now quite often when I'm out river fishing I may have 2 or 3 rods with me for different styles of fishing (spinning, pinning, flying) so usually have quite a varied inventory of supplies with me.
