This winter has lasted a long time and it has been starving me of fishing for a good 4-5 months!

I am wondering what sorts of fish I could catch now that the ice is beginning to melt. I'm sure the water temperature is still extremely cold tho.

What sorts of rigs, lines and lures would you guys recommend in the winter with ice, cold and snow.

THANKS!

if you find some open water which is possible but there will be current, or you have to look in narrows in between lakes, pike can be really good this time of year, i use my bass setup, except with no fluro leader, med/heavy rod, 15 lb power pro braid and, lures, spoons, throw everything you have at them, live bait works well too, crappie can be had as well. If i were you, id go ice fishing, much more opportunities can be had this time of year through the ice, wether it be, back lakes, bows and specks, simcoe lakers, northern crappies, northern pike, anything really, there is safe ice almost everywhere, if you want specifically open water, look in the haliburton/banroft are, some rivers have open water in that area and some lakes with current in the narrows is partially open as well, id wait a little but though still, because most fish are still hanging deep, give it a couple weeks, there will be more opportunities.
