Have not used the Accurist it is a new model this year but have used the Quantum tour KVD a little more cash then the Accurist, it was not what I expected the drag system started to "slip" only days after I started to use it and the bail would lock up on me.

I return the reel and got a new replacement reel ( same model ). Only to have the bail once again lock up on me a fews weeks later. Once again took it back to the shop but this time I exchanged it for a Pflueger® Supreme® XT .  This is my second Plueger reel I also own a Supreme I can not say enough about Plueger reels they have never failed me cast great and smooth drag. Looking back I do not know why I decided to try Quantum maybe I thought it was time for a change, I regret my decision, but am very pleased with my Supreme.

I also have two older Shimano reels one being a Sedona 3000 which has always been a great reliable reel for the price, I also own a Saros 2500 which is a absolute dream.

But for the money I would strongly suggest Shimano or Plueger.

Hope this helps in your decision

tight lines

It's a little more cash than the ones you're looking at but I'd say the best spinning reel on the market today (for the price) is the Shimano Sahara, you could probably find one slightly used if you are stuck in that price range.

Sorry but the Sahara is actually a little less then the ones he is looking at. But yeah, Christopher I agree with you the Sahara is a GREAT reel for the cash.

Hey fishysmell !  LOL love the name by the way........... PFLUEGER  ;)

I agree with bug slinger, i have a supreme xt and its an amazing reel, i used it a couple times in the cold and performed flawlessly! I have tried the sahara and it is a great reel for the price but if you're willing to spend a little more then i would definitely go with the pflueger.

Can anyone comment on what size Sahara would be good for Steelhead/Salmon? I have a line on a 2500FD but I am not sure of the size.

Thanks,

Steve

you wouldn't want to go any bigger, first thing you need to do is figure out where your going to do most of your fishing. If you plan on river fishing I would probably go with a lighter reel and a rod in 11 to 13 ft.Before I went to a centerpin reel I fished with a Diawa ss700 on a 13 ft. rod and can only say that I beached a ridiculous amount of both steelies and salmon on that rig.
